With heavy hearts we would like to share the passing of our former long time (over 20 years) fire chief, Eldridge Westbrook. His influence over many years, laid the foundation to where we are today. He will be deeply missed.

Please keeps his family in your prayers.

Rest easy Chief, Weโ€™ll take it from here.

10 years have come and gone since Hurricane Matthew, but for many of us, the memories still burn bright.

An unassuming tropical storm and a forecasted 4-6 inches of rain quickly transitioned into a deluge only a select few have witnessed.

In the course of 12 hours, things changed from a rainy Saturday morning, watching NC State play football in the rain, to washed out roads, stranded drivers, water rescues, and a failed drinking water system.

It's a busy weekend for us!

Last night, we started our first day working the booth at the fair, and had part of our guys helping cook hogs at Eureka Christian Church.

This morning, we have divided and conquered again, sending another crew to chop BBQ and our fair detail crew off to get the booth open.

So, if you're out and about, there's no reason to cook, we've been busy all over southern Wayne County doing our part! Come see us at the Wayne County Fair or swing on by Eureka Christian Church for a plate of BBQ starting at 11.

PS: We still have people around to run fire calls, what kind of operation do you think we run ๐Ÿ˜‚

Last Friday, was one of the calls that hurt the membership of a volunteer department, as it was to one of our own. Unfortunately, we lost a brother, a long time former member, and a friend.

To know Terry, was to know the essence of life. He was full of energy, emotion, and always a good dose of excitement.

That emotion and excitement was evident in the stories that have been shared over the past several days, especially the number of times he left his glasses behind and wasn't quite sure which switch was the right one for the red lights!

The most impactful story though, was a side of Terry that many didn't see, a side of deep compassion and caring for those in need. After a particular call one night, a family of few resources was left with just the clothes on their back. It was Terry who stepped up with the rallying cry to all the firemen, that the collective group had to do something to help, that went well beyond the call of duty. Yes, the man who wore his emotions like a shirt, truly had a soft side.

We mourn his passing, but we ask for your prayers to cover his family, who has a much larger void left by his untimely passing than us.

Well done good and faithful servant, we'll take it from here.

Where does your vote make the most significant difference?

The Local candidates running for office, that's where!

While the flashy campaigns, political ads, and TV debates may take your attention span during election season, this forum, held by The Grantham Grange, is absolutely the place to hear local folks, discuss local issues, that affect everyday life in Grantham and Wayne County.

Some of our members got to go today to Smith Chapel Volunteer Fire Department for a live burn. These trainings are great opportunities for fireman to get to make runs under live fire to work on their skills for when responding to structure fires. Its also great opportunity to have these evolutions in an acquired structure. That makes it about as real as it gets. We want to thank everyone at Smith Chapel for the hospitality and great lunch as well as for the invite today. Most importantly we want to thank the live burn instructors for taking their time out on a Saturday and sharing their knowledge with us to perfect this craft. And WCC for giving these opportunities to the departments in our county to train and better serve our communities.

Great turn out from Smith Chapel VFD, Grantham VFD, Jordans Chapel VFD, Mount Olive VFD, Thoroughfare VFD, and Calypso VFD
