Halloween is the deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians. Kids are 2.6 times as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Halloween should be scary for the right reasons: haunted houses, spooky movie nights, and cool costumes. We can all take steps to change these numbers and make sure every child gets home safely. Drivers can slow down and stay alert, and families can walk together, use sidewalks and crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing. Small actions add up, and together we can make a big difference! 🎃Check out our Halloween safety tips here: https://www.safekids.org/halloween

Be Safe, Be Seen on Halloween! 🎃 Tomorrow, many kids will take to the streets to trick-or-treat! Make visibility a top priority: kids need to be able to see where they’re going, and drivers need to be able to see them.

Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights, and add reflective tape or light-colored costumes, to help them see and be seen by drivers.

We have tips to help parents and caregivers prepare for a safe and sweet night. Check out our Halloween safety tips: https://www.safekids.org/halloween

Kids are 2.6 times as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. It’s important to stay alert, take action against distraction, and drive safely this Halloween. Remember these Halloween driving safety tips:

🏘️ Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.

🚸 Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs.

Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.

📵 Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings.

🚗 Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances.

🍬 Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially alert for kids during those hours.
