🏍️ E-MOTORCYCLES: KNOW THE LAW BEFORE YOU RIDE! ⚠️
While facing northbound on Magna Vista Drive and monitoring pedestrian traffic along Hollister Avenue, Officer Cortez observed a juvenile operating an electric motorcycle traveling eastbound.
After observing the electric motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed, Officer Cortez positioned his patrol vehicle behind it and paced the electric motorcycle at 45 MPH for a quarter of a mile.
Officer Cortez also observed that the motorcycle had no license plates and conducted an enforcement stop and determined the motorcycle did not have current registration. The electric motorcycle was towed, and the juvenile was cited and safely transported home.

⚠️ SAFETY REMINDER: Not all electric motorcycles are street legal! Depending on the vehicle’s classification, electric motorcycles may require DMV registration, license plates, and the appropriate motorcycle license or endorsement to operate on public roads. Some electric motorcycles are not eligible for street registration at all.
✅ Before you ride:
🔹 Know your vehicle’s classification and California DMV requirements.
🔹 Verify that your motorcycle is legal for public-road use.
🔹 Follow posted speed limits and all traffic laws.
🔹 Wear a properly fitted, approved motorcycle helmet and appropriate protective gear.
An electric motor doesn’t mean a free pass on the road. Know the rules, ride responsibly, and help keep our roads safe for everyone.
