"Healthy soil plays a critical role in protecting our water resources. 💧Soil absorbs rainfall and irrigation, reducing runoff and erosion while helping filter pollutants before they reach streams, rivers, and lakes. It also helps recharge aquifers that supply water for communities, agriculture, and wildlife. Good soil stewardship helps ensure clean and reliable water for Texans today and in the future.

"Healthy soil helps the land adapt to changing conditions. 🌧️ By improving water infiltration, strengthening plant growth, and supporting soil structure, well-managed soil helps reduce the impacts of drought, flooding, and other extreme weather events. Stewardship practices that protect soil today help build more resilient landscapes for the future.

"Soil does more than sit beneath our feet; it powers Texas agriculture! 🌱 By anchoring roots and supplying nutrients, healthy soil helps produce the food and fiber that sustain everything we grow and help feed and clothe millions across the country.

In fact, U.S. farmers and ranchers produce enough to feed more than 330 million Americans and hundreds of millions worldwide, all starting with healthy soil.

"It's Texas Soil and Water Stewardship Week and this year’s theme, ""Soil. Where it all Begins,"" reminds us that healthy soil supports everything Texans depend on by performing essential functions like producing food and fiber, managing and protecting water, cycle and store nutrients, and build resilience every day. Join us in celebrating and promoting the soil that sustains us!

"From the deserts of West Texas to the forests of East Texas, from rolling rangelands to productive croplands, every region relies on the soil beneath it. Each soil type plays an important role in supporting agriculture, wildlife, and natural ecosystems. Because no matter the landscape, soil is where it all begins.
