Looks like HM 181 made it to the finish line this weekend!

Our HazMat 181 crew was out at NASCAR this past weekend, and they got to take part in something pretty cool.

People were being given the opportunity to sign the finish line, so naturally, our crew decided to add HM 181 to it!

Another successful race weekend in the books, and we thought this was a fun little moment worth sharing. Not every day you get to leave your truck number on a NASCAR finish line!

Even when you're using your skills regularly, there's always something new to learn or something worth reviewing.

Every two years, our EMTs and paramedics take part in EMS refresher training. This dedicated training time gives our crews an opportunity to revisit important medical skills, practice different techniques and stay current with changes in emergency medicine.

While our firefighters gain valuable experience responding to calls every day, it's also helpful to have time set aside to work through different scenarios, ask questions and focus on the details.

Here's a look at some of the training our crews have been participating in.

Ever wonder how much fire hose we have to test each year?

During this year's annual testing, Goodyear Fire tested 33,600 feet of fire hose. That's approximately 6.4 miles!

That includes hose from all eight of our fire trucks and stations, plus our backup supply.

The process involves unloading hose from our apparatus, inspecting it for signs of wear or damage, and pressure testing it to identify potential problems before it's needed on a call.

Our ladders get tested annually, too. Every ladder carried on our apparatus undergoes testing with weight applied to check they work and operate appropriately.

It's a process most people probably don't get to see, so we thought we'd share a quick look at what goes into it.

Last week, we had a chance to sit down with some of our neighbors at Station 183 for Dinner with the Fire Chief!

Guests enjoyed dinner while hearing from our fire chief about what’s been happening around Goodyear Fire over the past year, from call volume and department operations to equipment and other updates.

There was also plenty of time for questions, conversations and a tour of the station.

Thanks to everyone who came out and spent the evening with us! And a special thank-you to MISSION BBQ for catering the dinner!

A pretty special recognition for one of our own!

Our Public Educator, Tanja Tanner, recently received a certificate recognizing 25 years of service in child passenger safety!

Tanja was attending annual continuing education training when she received the recognition. Even after 25 years, there's always something new to learn, especially as car seats, equipment and safety recommendations continue to evolve.

As a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), Tanja helps parents and caregivers navigate everything from proper car seat installation to making sure their children are safely secured as they grow.

Car seats can be confusing, and having someone with that kind of experience to help answer questions makes a difference.

Congratulations on 25 years, Tanja! We're happy to celebrate this milestone with you.

If you need help with your child's seat, call our hotline - 623-882-SEAT (7328) to schedule your appointment.
