This afternoon, crews from Wayne Township,Jackson Township Fire and Rescue - Clermont & Stonelick Township Fire Department got to get up close & personal with one of Premier Health CareFlight Air and Mobile Services medical helicopters. These helicopters are frequently utilized in our day to day transport operations for patients who require rapid transport for specialty treatment ranging from Cardiac Catheterization Labs for heart attacks to Level One Trauma Care for traumatic injuries. Tonight covered familiarization with helicopter parts & components, radio communication, establishing safe landing zones,CareFlight’s job roles, loading patients for air transport & necessary safety measures ground crews need to take if the flight crews encounter their own emergencies. Hands on training focused on the loading of patients into the helicopter, the two types of methods used are referred to a “Hot Loading” & “Cold Loading”. Cold Loading is when a patient is moved into the helicopter when the engine is shut down & rotor blades are not moving. Hot Loading is when a patient is moved into the helicopter when the engine has remained active & rotor blades are actively spinning, this method is utilized when rapid transport is crucial to the positive outcome of a patients life. Hot Loading also carries significantly more risks & requires clear communications among Careflight & EMS to create a safe environment for everyone involved. Great thanks are extended to Stonelick Township for providing Station 40 as a training location & coordinating this informative experience. We would also like to thank Premier CareFlight for taking the time to come out & allow us to understand their crucial work on a deeper level.

This morning, personnel from Stonelick Township Fire Department, and Wayne Township Fire and Rescue attended a class on Combine/Harvester fires. The class content was assembled and coordinated by FF Mackenzie Mercer and included a classroom/ lecture session and scenarios, then a field trip to the Winemiller farm on Taylor Pike Rd. where Mr Roger Winemiller and Mr Todd Winemiller showed the class a 2022 John Deere Combine, reviewed known areas of potential fire hazards and moving parts hazards. This was just another joint training opportunity between departments. A heartfelt thank you to Roger and Todd for taking the time to train our personnel with your knowledge and expertise. Thanks also to FF Mercer for coordinating and presenting this training.

A public safety note: As we move closer to harvest season, when traveling on suburban and rural roads, please be mindful of the farm machinery on the roadways and give them as much space as they need to move down the road.

It's always a great opportunity to have personnel from our department and surrounding departments come together for training. Thanks to the Ohio academy (Instructor Jeremy Keller) for providing your wisdom and expertise on fire pump operations to the Stonelick Township Fire Department and Blanchester Fire firefighters that participated in this training and to the Wayne Township Fire Auxiliary (Freddie Way) for providing lunch.
Plans are in the works for additional multi-departmental training in the near future!
