I am currently working on my “final project” here at the cemetery. Along with a few friends, we are creating a remembrance tree in recognition of Veteran Su***de Prevention. Statistically, nearly 20 veterans (nationwide) take their own lives EACH DAY! It is time that we more clearly recognize this epidemic and honor these men & women who once served this country and then fell victim to the pressures of life that none of us will ever really understand.
This tree will be constructed of metal rebar which was very generously donated by Mike Roussos of LOWES. It is being fabricated by my friend Aaron Ubides of the Nam Knight’s M/C. Yesterday we poured the foundation with the help of Woodards Concrete who, again, very generously donated the cement and delivery. My great friend Jerred Russell of Benedict/ Billings Memorials donated his skills in preparing the perfect base finish.
We are hoping to have the tree in place this fall. It will be located just off our parking area near the front gazebo. With the use of a special machine, each year at an annual ceremony, Dog Tags bearing the names of veterans who succumbed to these pressures of life will be placed upon the tree’s branches creating a calming wind chime effect to be heard throughout the grounds.
Further information of progress and unveiling will be posted as it becomes available.
