Collaborative Summer Library Program Our Vision – CSLP envisions vibrant summer reading programs available to everyone through their library.

Collaborating since 1987 around summer reading, CSLP has a long history of public library engagement around vibrant slogans/themes. 40 member states and island nations are currently members of the CSLP. All public libraries in member states are included in our membership, but any public library can become an individual member on an annual basis for a small fee.

Collaborative Summer Library Program’s Annual Meeting is in Chicago this week! Library staff from around the country volunteer to serve on committees and support summer reading planning for member libraries year-round.

Michigan librarians Cassie from Capital Area District Libraries and Danielle from Caro Area District Library joined Cathy & Barb, and Michigander CSLP Staffer Tabetha, in participating. It is so great to have so many Michigan voices in summer reading!

LM’s Youth Services Coordinator Cathy Lancaster presented this week at the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL)’s Annual Conference in Montgomery, Alabama.

Together with her colleagues Jeni, Carrie, & Kate, from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Maryland State Library Agency, and the Tennessee State Library & Archives, they facilitated a 2-hour session on Building Community-Based Summers (BCBS).

BCBS is a guide to for public library staff who want to engage community voices and provide community-based summer services for all. National and state cohorts are available, thanks to a partnership between BCBS and the Collaborative Summer Library Program.

This September, Library Card Sign-up Month invites communities to discover all the possibilities waiting behind a library card—from books and digital resources to programs, technology, makerspaces, cultural experiences, and more.

For library supporters like Trustees, Friends, and Foundation leaders, it’s also an opportunity to help amplify the message: library access is community access. Consider partnering with your library to promote card sign-ups, reaching new audiences through community organizations and local businesses, or helping support inclusive outreach efforts.

Libraries mourn the loss of Country music legend and forever children's literacy champion, Dolly Parton.

"I believe that if you can read, then you can self-educate yourself. There's a book out there on everything you want to know. I just think that it's important."
