We are the Alamance County Rescue Unit, Inc. Under the laws of the State of North Carolina, our agency is organized as, and functions as a non-profit corporation. We are Alamance County's sole certified Heavy Rescue provider, providing response and service 24 hours a day, to our entire county. Our agency operates several specialty teams, including a Dive Team, which provides underwater body and evidence search and recovery; the Swift Water Team and the K-9 Team. Rescue also provides ambulance standby coverage for public functions, sports events at venues such as Elon University's Rhodes Stadium, and at live burn trainings for local fire departments. As we constantly remain proactive in regards to the personal health and safety of those we serve, protect, and educate, we conduct outreach events throughout the county. Some of these include the KidCare I.D. program, vehicle injury prevention programs, and preventitive health events. We hope you find your online experience with us both entertaining and educational.

We are proud to announce that Alamance County Rescue Unit has been recredentialed as a designated North Carolina Emergency Management Wilderness Search and Rescue Team!

This designation allows our team to support search and rescue operations across North Carolina while strengthening our ability to serve right here in Alamance County. Our trained members, including our K9 team, assist in searches for missing or endangered individuals, including children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities, in wooded, remote, and difficult-to-access areas.

We are proud of our members’ dedication, training, and commitment to bringing loved ones home.

**Training** This past week ACRU was busy with training on land and by “sea”! Our divers worked on ERDI skills and certification check offs and our members worked on high angle rescue pick offs and techniques with our friends and fellow responders with Elon Fire Department. These trainings build necessary skill sets and strengthen emergency response to those in need. 💪

“Training Burn Rehab”

This past week ACRU provided rehab services to our friends & fellow responders with Haw River Fire Department, Mebane NC Fire Department & Faucette Township Vol. Fire Department. They put the work in, taking on the heat, to better prepare for themselves when time is of the essence on an emergency! Strong work! Rehab and rest during these trainings and emergencies are essential for long incidents and keeps all responders ready for top notch service! Great work all!!

A little bit of our history from the early 70’s! Thanks for the tag Legeros Fire Line!

Morning rescue history. Random finds of the Alamance County Rescue Unit in the early 1970s, from Burlington and Greensboro newspapers.

Top left from the Burlington News Times, about the squad returning to full-time ambulance service yesterday, after having suspending operation for several weeks "during a period of indecision over funds."

Caption: The Alamance Rescue Unit returned to full ambulance service yesterday. Two full-time employees are manning the station, and volunteers provide additional service. Left to right are Lt. Jim Wright, Sgt. Jimmie Bell and Henry Moore, shown here with some of the unit's equipment which was used for seven calls yesterday.

Bottom from the Greensboro Daily News on October 31, 1971, about the squad's proposal that ambulance service in Alamance County be county-operated through their organization. Currently, it was contracted to a private firm owned by George Sidden. And the "ambulance issue flared up in the spring" when county commissioners extended the contract for another year.

Top right from the Greensboro Daily News on January 10, 1973, at a car accident in Burlington and an injured youth being transported by the rescue unit to Alamance County Hospital.

Memo to self, add Alamance County to the list of ambulance and rescue service histories to research sometime.
