Hey Hood County, rain is coming!🌧️

Widespread showers and storms are expected Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night, with some storms potentially becoming severe. The National Weather Service has issued Flood Watch from Wednesday at 4pm through 7am Friday.

🌧️ 2–4 inches is most likely, mainly from Wednesday night through late Thursday night.
⚠️ Isolated amounts of up to 6 inches are possible, which could lead to flooding.
🚗DO NOT drive through flooded roadways or around barricades! You do not know what conditions may exist beneath the water.
📱Keep an eye on changing weather conditions and be prepared for the possibility of heavy rainfall, flooding, and severe storms.

Our office is actively monitoring conditions and preparing for the potential impacts. We are coordinating available state and local resources should they be needed.

Stay safe and stay weather-aware! 🌧️

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Multiple Wastewater Spills Reported from Canyon Creek Wastewater Plant; Agencies Coordinating Response

Hood County, Texas – September 2, 2026 – Hood County Environmental Health is notifying the public of wastewater spills from the Canyon Creen Wastewater Plant, operated by AQUA Texas. Spills occurred on August 26, August 31, and September 2, 2026.

The uncontrolled release of untreated material originated from the Canyon Creek Wastewater Plant and entered an inlet of Lake Granbury. Cleanup efforts are currently underway and water quality testing will be conducted after cleanup is complete.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the regulatory authority over the facility, the Brazos River Authority (BRA), and Hood County Environmental Health have all been notified and are working to mitigate the impacts. The agencies continue to coordinate on response and oversight.

PUBLIC HEALTH PRECAUTIONS:

All recreational use, including swimming, wading, fishing, and boating should be avoided on the lake near the Canyon Creek area until further notice. Pets and livestock should also be kept out of the water.

Warning signs will be posted at public access points as needed. These precautions will remain in effect until water quality testing confirms that conditions meet applicable standards.

Updates on cleanup progress, water testing results, and when any advisory may be lifted will be provided as information becomes available.

Dove season opens tomorrow — have fun out there, but stay fire wise.

Trucks can easily start wildfires. Avoid parking or idling in tall grass, and don’t drive across uncut pastures. Hot exhaust systems and catalytic converters can ignite dry vegetation in seconds. Whenever possible, park on bare ground or gravel and keep a close eye on your vehicle. Don't forget these important safety tips:
✅Check the latest weather and fire-danger conditions before you head out
✅Tell someone your plans and expected return time
✅Carry a charged phone and know your location
✅Stay hydrated and watch for signs of heat stress

Enjoy the hunt safely.

Many of you across the county woke up this morning to heavy smoke blanketing our area. This smoke is coming from the Ross Fire, a large wildfire currently burning in Palo Pinto and Jack Counties. Overnight and early this morning the winds shifted, carrying the smoke south into Hood County.

While the smoke can look and feel concerning, it is primarily from the Ross Fire and not from new fires within our county at this time.

Please continue to stay alert and report any fire activity immediately. Things to watch for include:
✅Visible flames
✅Thick black smoke
✅A concentrated rising column of smoke

If you see something that doesn’t look right, call it in right away - this gives our firefighters the best chance to get ahead of a new start before it grows.

Thank you for staying alert and helping keep our community safe.

Great info from our friends at DCBE-Acton VFD

Smoke from the surrounding grass fires has moved into our area this morning, causing a noticeable smell of smoke and hazy conditions.

At this time, there are NO active fires in our immediate area. Your local fire departments are actively monitoring conditions and are ready to respond quickly should anything arise.

Please use caution when spending extended periods of time outdoors while smoke is present, especially those who may be sensitive to poor air quality.

If you see smoke, flames, or anything that appears concerning, please call it in.

Our thoughts are with the families, communities, and firefighters currently affected by the surrounding grass fires. Please continue to use caution and stay safe.

Thank you, and stay safe!

🔥Hood County Fire Danger Increasing🔥
Texas A&M Forest Service has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 3. This means wildfire activity is impacting several regions of the state due to drought, dry vegetation and fire-friendly weather events. Texas A&M Forest Service is strategically positioning personnel, equipment and aircraft in areas at risk.

As conditions worsen, wildfire activity is expected to increase through mid-August. Fires will likely take more time, resources, and effort to fully contain and extinguish.

🔥Hood County is currently under a burn ban.
🚫Please avoid any activities that could ignite a fire.
🎒Have a go kit ready and know your evacuation routes.
📱Stay alert to rapidly changing conditions.

✅Stay aware. Stay prepared. Stay informed.
