Parents’ Rights & Transparency Under Texas Law
Texas Education Code (TEC), Chapter 26 is focused heavily on parental rights, access, and transparency within public education.

Parents have a recognized right to participate in and have information about their child’s education.

Walker v. North East ISD is an important Texas case involving parental access and school transparency.

Mahmoud v. Taylor reinforced the principle that parents have a fundamental role in directing the upbringing and education of their children under the 14th Amendment.

Religious instruction:
Texas law allows parents to arrange for their children to receive religious instruction off campus for 1–5 hours per week, subject to the statutory requirements.

Sexual orientation and gender identity:
Schools may not provide certain instruction concerning sexual orientation or gender identity as restricted by Texas law.
Texas law also restricts schools from sponsoring or supporting certain clubs or organizations based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

School personnel are prohibited from assisting a student with social transitioning in ways prohibited by Texas law.

Parent access to surveys:
Parents have the right to review certain surveys and assessments given to their children.

Parents may object to or prohibit their child’s participation in surveys involving sexual attitudes or related protected topics, as provided by law.

Reporting sexual misconduct by school employees or service providers:
Superintendents and principals have specific legal reporting obligations when they receive information concerning sexual misconduct involving school employees or certain service providers.

Required notifications can include parents and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) within 48 hours and law enforcement within 24 hours, depending on the circumstances and applicable statute.

Failure to comply with certain reporting requirements can constitute a state jail felony.

Bottom line:
These are just a few examples of the parental-rights, transparency, and accountability provisions enacted or strengthened by the 89th Texas Legislature. Parents should know these rights, exercise them, and hold school districts accountable for following Texas law.

The Bible has been part of our country’s history and traditions since the beginning often having been the book young children learn to read and write with in early schoolhouses. The Bible does NOT violate the law, Texas Education Code, or Conroe ISD Local Policy FULL STOP. The Bible in its entirety should be available at all times to all ages in all settings in our great country. Any attempt to censor the Bible should gravely concern any Christian.

In fact, when communists take over any country, the very first thing they do is ban the Bible and any religious texts and prayer books.

Should we take this seriously? Yes, we should!
