The Finer Details:
Join fellow Granby MA residents in a celebration of our right to vote! Let's be DAY ONE VOTERS! We want everyone in town to know that early voting starts on October 17th and that voting early is safe, effective, and a vital way to help protect our votes! Tell your friends and neighbors about this event and about early voting!
We will meet "On The Common" at 8:45AM. This is the common between East State Street (RT 202) and Common Street near the Church of Christ Congregational. At 9:15AM, our group will march to the beat of a drum to the early vote polling place located at the Carnegie building, aka "the old library," on Library Lane. Then we will get in line to vote! This is a short walk that includes crossing 202 at a crosswalk. Please stay in the group and follow instructions to keep everyone safe!
Since this is a NONPARTISAN community event there are important guidelines that everyone involved must follow. There will be NO SIGNS ALLOWED. If you would like to hold something, as we gather and march, you may carry an American flag. Not only is this a national nonpartisan event, but any campaigning or politicking is not allowed near a polling station by law. Please do not bring any signs to this event! Also keep in mind that clothing should not have any campaign speech in order to enter the polling place!
Additionally, The Church of Christ Congregation has generously allowed us to assemble on the Common, which is their private property, and to use their parking areas for this event. They have allowed this with the explicit understanding that this is a nonpartisan community voting event with no signs or campaigning. Please thank them and honor their spirit of community by respecting their property and the guidelines stated above!
The Church of Christ and Granby To Go have made us aware that they are collecting new socks and underwear for elementary through high school aged kids in Granby. There is a big shortage of these basic necessities for the kids due to the SNAP/EBT cuts and all around rising prices. There will be a tote by the door at the Parish Hall where you can drop off donations. Part of democracy is being part of a community, and community helps lift each other up in times of need. If you are able, please donate new socks and underwear!
Our goal is to come together as a community, no matter who or what you vote for! Everyone is welcome! Even if you are not a resident of Granby, you are welcome to celebrate the right to vote with us! Let's use our people power to make our voices heard by voting in massive numbers this Election season!
In order to keep things moving smoothly in the voting booth, please come prepared. There are quite a few boxes to check, including 9 ballot questions. It is legal to bring notes into the booth with you. There are many sources online for help with the ballot questions. Go to mass.gov to find ballot question info. It's not the easiest of sources, but an online search will give you plenty of other options!
After voting and donating, please head out to a more traditional No Kings rally around the Valley!
South Hadley 10-12, Belchertown 10-12, Pelham 11-12, Hadley 12-2, Westfield 11-1, Easthampton 9-3, Amherst 1-2, Northampton 1-3, Ludlow 2:30-4:30. Find more info for each event at nokings.org !!
Please feel free to share this post with anyone you think may be interested in joining us. There are currently almost 3,000 events scheduled nationwide. We are making history this election season!
And finally..... A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
See you on October 17th! Thank you in advance for being a voter!
