🎉 A New Chapter at NDBIN!

Andrea has been part of the NDBIN team since February 2024, serving as a Resource Facilitator and working alongside individuals, families, and communities impacted by brain injury. In her new role, she looks forward to building on that experience while helping strengthen programs, expand outreach, and support innovative initiatives throughout the state.

Just a reminder that the October meeting of The Pain Connection chronic pain peer support group will take place tomorrow, Tuesday October 13th at 4:30 pm at the Harmony Center. Last month's discussion was fantastic. It was wonderful to add some new voices to the conversation, as well, and everyone is welcome; anyone who has joined us before or who is new to the group.
Last time discussion was started around these questions:
Have you ever caught yourself measuring your worth by what you can physically accomplish? What happens when you do?
What parts of your identity feel threatened by chronic pain, and what parts have become stronger?
If you couldn't use your ability to work, exercise, help others, or “be productive” to describe yourself, how would you describe who you are?
What has chronic pain taught you about yourself that you don't think you would have learned otherwise?
Our discussion was so full that we only got part way through these, so let's continue. Feel free to bring a friend or tell someone else who might need some support.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. More than half of domestic violence survivors suffer single or repeated brain injuries. The population is at high risk for brain injury, yet it's one where brain injuries are under-identified, under-diagnosed, and under-treated.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we encourage you to learn about the intersection of domestic violence and brain injury to help spread awareness about this invisible epidemic: https://biausa.org/groups-at-higher-risk-of-brain-injury/domestic-violence-and-brain-injury?fbclid=IwY2xjawUs46dleHRuA2FlbQIxMABwZG9mAWJyaWQRMWNxVEdWWjhTaGdaN2tEbVRzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEeaqIIzkNaoXVUrWDynEPYanJlgta7_4Q6XW0k__RhavdstmxeC0K6l0ZIbkE_aem_WJSBJnLciaILWWPVK8Uc5g

🎉 North Dakota Receives ACL TBI State Partnership Grant! 🧠

We’re excited to share that North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) has been awarded a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) State Partnership Grant through the Administration for Community Living (ACL)!

Through this grant, NDBIN will partner with North Dakota HHS as a subcontractor to carry out important TBI initiatives across our state.

This grant will help strengthen ND's ability to ensure that individuals living with brain injury - and their families/caregivers - can access the information, resources, services, and supports they need throughout their lives.

This funding represents an exciting opportunity to build on the work already happening across our state and to continue strengthening North Dakota’s response to brain injury.

We are grateful to North Dakota Health and Human Services and the Administration for Community Living for this opportunity and look forward to working alongside partners across the state to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by brain injury.

We’re excited for what’s ahead! 💙🧠

We are excited to host Christian Struthers for our upcoming Webinar Wednesday - next Wednesday, September 30th at 1:30pm CST.

Register here! https://www.ndbin.org/events/webinars

Read about his story: After a life-changing crash left Christian Struthers with a traumatic brain injury, his life changed in an instant. The road that followed challenged him physically, mentally, and emotionally, but it also taught him something powerful: while we don't get to choose everything that happens to us, we do get to choose how we respond. In this webinar, Christian shares the story behind his "I Get To" mindset and how changing his perspective helped him move forward through some of the most difficult moments of his life. Through personal stories, honest reflection, and practical takeaways, he explores how the choices we make each day can shape our mindset, our direction, and the life we create.
