Northlands Rescue Mission We are an emergency shelter empowering people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or food insecurity to live more stable lives.

We serve homeless men, women, and families from 21 counties in North Dakota and Minnesota. Clients are provided with shelter, meals, clothing, essential items, spiritual support, and case management. This is delivered in a safe environment, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The end goal for everyone who stays at the Mission is permanent housing. In 2021, more than 150 men and women found permanent housing with the help of the Mission & supporting agencies. We also feed thousands of community members each year with our outreach initiatives, which include the Backpack Food Program for elementary students, monthly food boxes, and our Mobile Food Pantry. Lately, the pantry shelves have been almost bare. The food boxes are a bit smaller than we'd like. And that means things are a bit harder for the families who come here.

So we prayed. God, help these families, so the kids can go to school with full tummies and learn well, and so the parents can keep the heat on and go to bed without fear.๐Ÿ™

We are seeing those prayers answered.

Generous people are stepping in, like the team and customers at Bloom Beauty Bar Grand Forks. We just picked up all this food from their donation drive. ๐ŸŒž Customers donated almost $700 in food, and the Bloom team MATCHED that with $700 in services donated!

Some other recent food drives came from the students at Schroeder Middle School and the GFPD Fraternal Order of Police. And individual people are helping too! A farmer stopped by the other day with extra squash from his garden.

So grateful to everyone who has been moved to give back in a time of need. May your days be blessed! โค

A while back, Jackie walked out the Mission's front doors and disappeared. Two weeks later, he turned up at the hospital. He'd been on a drinking binge.

The doctor told him, "If you do this again, you aren't waking up."

He got a ride back to the Mission, intending to pick up his belongings and move on. "I thought my bags were going to get thrown at me," Jackie told us.

But that's not what happened.

Today, Jackie is sober. He has a job. Soon he'll have a home. And he's going to tell his story at the Mission of Hope Banquet on November 12th.

Join us to hear powerful stories like this one, told firsthand, during an evening of hope and celebration.

6th graders, 7th graders, and 8th graders can be fierce rivals. Last week at Schroeder Middle School, that took a back seat to kindness. โ˜บ๏ธ

Students from each grade worked together to collect this big pile of food for families in need. ๐Ÿ‘ช All of it will go into food boxes, helping people in our community make it through the month. โค

Thank you to the Schroeder Sources of Strength club for leading this food drive, and to all who donated. Your generosity means that food boxes will be FULL of meat, pasta, veggies this week!

What are the chances? Last week, our van broke down. Total loss... Two days later, we got a call.

The old Red River Valley Community Action van hadn't sold at auction. It needed a new home. They thought of the Mission and didn't even know ours was broken!

Thanks to this development, there will be no delay in services. That means more food donations getting to the pantry and into the hands of families. Perhaps God was listening to their needs. โค๐Ÿ™

Folks at the Mission got a special treat yesterday - all the Deeks Pizza they could eat! ๐Ÿ• The pies were generously donated by Trina, Deek's assistant GM. She was in a position to give back and felt that it was important to do so. โค

Thank you to Trina for your generosity, and to our regular volunteer, Connie Osowski, for helping serve pizza to about 80 people!

We are seeking item donations for our Holiday Auction, which starts Nov. 30th! ๐Ÿ›’

This auction is one of the biggest around, and it's a great way for your business or family to do good AND get a little recognition. Auction donors will be featured on the auction website (with a link to your site), in the Mission newsletter, and at our banquet.

Local businesses and families often donate self-care items, artwork, tickets, sports gear, kitchen essentials, and more.

And the best part...your donation will help men, women, and families receive safe shelter and warm food this holiday season. โค

If you would like to donate an item or basket, please contact Korrin at (701) 772-6600 ext. 1015 or email [email protected].

Thinking about a guy who stayed here named Jackson. He always wanted to be a nurse. Any chance to help someone else gave him a real spark. But he couldn't stay sober.

Jackson started attending the weekly support group here. He shared his story, and he listened to others share theirs. He learned some healthy coping skills to manage his addiction.

All of it motivated him so much that he completed a full residential treatment program, got sober, passed the Certified Nursing Assistant exam, and got his license.

But then he relapsed.

And now is the most interesting part of his story. Because of his new connections and the that others offered him...that relapse was just a temporary setback.

Jackson got sober again. Before long, he was hired as a nursing assistant at a local care facility. His dream job!

Imagine if that relapse happened, but Jackson had no one and nothing to pick him back up? THAT's why this work matters so much.

So grateful for the donors, volunteers, business and faith leaders who make it possible. Best wishes to Jackson in his recovery. God bless you all. โค

When Danny came to the shelter, he was struggling with alcoholism. His drinking had taken complete control of his life.

Thanks to partners like the Otter Tail Power Company Foundation, he's been able to attend free meetings with a licensed addiction counselor while staying here.

Now, Danny is learning from and connecting with others in the group. He's practicing new coping skills and paying more attention to his mental health. That gives him the best chance to STAY housed once he finds a home.

Thank you to the Otter Tail Power Company Foundation for their generous support of this program and helping people kick addiction! ๐Ÿ’ช

The Rally for Recovery is tomorrow evening in Town Square! This event is open to all, and it's about supporting people in our community who are recovering from addiction. ๐Ÿ’ช

We'll be there with some info about the addiction support program at the Mission. The free program helps people experiencing homelessness build critical skills and connections to stay sober.

Every week, volunteers sort through donations and make sure clothing and hygiene products are available for people at the Mission. They just let us know that we are completely out of shampoo and conditioner!
