Grand Island Fire Department The Grand Island Fire Department (GIFD) has a long history, including the first fire company organized in the city in 1874.

Since that year, we have served the community responding to both emergency and non-emergency incidents.

A few of GIFD’s finest made the trip to Denver today to honor those lost on 9-11. We will never forget.

🏠 New! Residential Knox Box Loaner Program

We now offering qualifying residents a free residential Knox Box to help first responders access homes more quickly during emergencies while reducing the need for forced entry. Family isn't just something we talk about at GIFD—it's something you experience.

Every shift, every challenge and every success is shared by a team that's committed to having each other's backs. That's what makes the Grand Island Fire Department more than a place to work—it's a place to belong.

Hear from Division Chief Ed Carlin and Firefighter Kyler Kaping about why the family atmosphere at GIFD makes all the difference.

Ready to answer the call? Apply today at www.gifire.org/joinourteam. Deadline is July 6 at 3 p.m.!

Fireworks cause thousands of injuries every year, especially among children. Consider these fun alternatives instead:

✨ Glow sticks
🎥 An outdoor movie night
🇺🇸 Patriotic crafts
🎉 Red, white and blue silly string

A memorable celebration doesn't have to involve fireworks. Keep safety at the center of your holiday plans and enjoy a fun-filled Fourth of July with family and friends. 🚒🇺🇸

✨ Sparklers may seem harmless, but they can burn at temperatures of up to 1,200°F — hot enough to melt some metals and cause serious injuries.

With fireworks now on sale, it's important to keep children 👧 and pets 🐶 a safe distance away, always supervise their use and never allow young children to handle sparklers. This 4th of July, make safety your top priority and leave the excitement to the fireworks, not a trip to the emergency room. 🎆🚒🇺🇸
