The Clifton Motor Vehicle office is now located at the Clifton Community Campus on D ½ Road.

The new location opened in September 2026 and allows the County to use a county-owned building rather than renting at the old location.

Residents will continue to be able to access motor vehicle services, including vehicle registration, title services, license plates and related transactions. Hours of operation and service are the same, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

County approves data center moratorium

Mesa County has been working on updates to its land development code. During that process, commissioners and county officials received extensive feedback on the regulation of potential data center projects in Mesa County.

Data center facilities are not addressed in the old land use code, which was last updated in 2020.

While work on the land development code continues, commissioners unanimously approved a 12-month moratorium at the Sept. 29 public hearing. The moratorium temporarily pauses the acceptance, processing and approval of land use applications for data center facilities in unincorporated Mesa County. It takes effect immediately.

The moratorium supersedes the current guidelines and gives county staff time to continue updating other parts of the land development code while gathering public feedback and input on data center regulation.

The county has no pending applications for data center projects.

Mesa County and other local governments are working on a large project to update the stormwater management manual for developers in the Grand Valley.

The manual is a shared guide to promote public health, safety, and general welfare and minimize losses due to flooding through the adoption of policies, procedures, standards, and criteria for storm drainage.

The county public works department is using Wright Water Engineers Inc. as the contractor to update the manual to industry standards. At the Sept. 21 public hearing, commissioners approved a change order to the contract, as the scope of work has increased over time.
