Wishing Retired Captain Bob Johnson a very happy 96th birthday! 🎉

Captain Bob Johnson joined the Grand Prairie Fire Department in 1955 as the 8th paid firefighter in department history. He dedicated 31 years of service before retiring in 1986.

🎥 The video attached is from his 95th birthday celebration last year, an incredible moment capturing the joy and appreciation of the day as he celebrated surrounded by friends and fellow firefighters.

For the 12th consecutive year, we are proud to be nationally recognized by the American Heart Association with the Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Award, along with the distinguished Target: Stroke Honor Roll and Target: Heart Attack Honor Roll recognitions.

These honors reflect our commitment to providing rapid, high-quality care for patients experiencing strokes and heart attacks. Reducing the time between EMS prehospital contact and hospital treatment is critical, as faster intervention can significantly improve patient outcomes, reduce complications, and increase the likelihood of recovery.

☀️ Beat the Heat, Stay Safe! ☀️

As temperatures rise, it's important to know the signs of heat related illness and take steps to protect yourself and others.

💧 Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.
👕 Wear lightweight, light colored, and loose fitting clothing.
🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning whenever possible.
🤝 Check on family, friends, neighbors, older adults, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.

Yesterday at approximately 05:47 p.m., GPFD responded to a report of a possible drowning at Joe Pool Lake. Witnesses reported that a 15-year-old male was last seen swimming near the swim beach area and did not resurface. The Grand Prairie Public Safety Dive Team conducted a search and rescue operation and located the swimmer.

He was then transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The swimmer was not wearing a life vest.

As lake season begins, GPFD strongly encourages the public to wear a life vest or an appropriate flotation device while in or near the water.
