We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Retired Fire Chief James Robertson.

Chief Robertson began his career in the City of Grand Prairie in 1958 working in the Water Department. On August 1, 1961, he joined the Grand Prairie Fire Department where he promoted through the ranks from firefighter to Fire Chief in 1983. After 33 years of dedicated service, Chief Robertson retired on October 1st, 1991.

His legacy of duty and service to the City of Grand Prairie lives on by his two grandsons, Firefighters Cody and Lane Robertson.

Chief James Robertson was a great leader, mentor, and chief. His influence helped shape the Grand Prairie Fire Department into what it is today.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Robertson family, friends, and loved ones. Chief James Robertson’s impact on this department and our city will not be forgotten.

On Saturday, GPFD’s Dive Team was on standby at Red Bull’s 2025 Flutag event in Irving, where teams launched homemade flying machines off a 30-foot platform into the water. 🤿

They made sure the fun stayed safe while the crowd cheered on the splash landings! 🌊
