Hey almni! What have you been up to? Here's an FHN alumna and a former FHPS language immersion student, doing great work in Kalamazoo at Western Michigan University!

Take a minute and meet Emily Kozal, our new manager for DEI and Culture at . Emily is a Grand Rapids native and an alumna of Kalamazoo College where she earned degrees in Spanish and Business. Prior to joining the medical school, Emily worked with several community organizations in Kalamazoo, including Goodwill Industries of Southwest Michigan, Girls on the Run, Area 16 Special Olympics, and Farmworker Legal Services. After working in marketing at Stryker Instruments, she moved to Portland, Oregon, to get back into the nonprofit space and worked as both a site and program manager at an organization serving diverse communities, primarily the Latinx population. In these roles, she worked to enhance culturally diverse after-school, community health, immigration legal navigation, and aging services programs. Emily is passionate about social justice and has been trained in trauma-informed supervision, assertive engagement, and equity foundations. Recently, she relocated back to Kalamazoo to be closer to family. She is most looking forward to expanding her DEI knowledge to the medical field and continuing to learn by building relationships with WMed faculty, residents, fellows, staff and students.
