At the end of this academic year, we honor and celebrate the retirement of our Library Dean, David Malone. Hekman Library has faced great changes in the 10 years of David's leadership, and he's seen us through thick and thin. It can honestly be said that the best of what Hekman is today is thanks to his hard work. David, we hope you enjoy this well-deserved time of rest and reward - we'll miss your insight and encouragement, funny puns and cheery whistle coming down the hall, but we'll carry on your dream of cultivating Hekman as a space of community, open to all learners. ❤️📖❤️

Need something fun to read over the summer? Find some great recommendations in our Senior Selections display! Every year, Hekman Library honors our graduating student workers with the opportunity to add something they love to the library's collection, and over the years, our seniors have selected materials of all kinds, from books to DVDs to vinyl records, in many genres and languages. You know these picks all come highly recommended, so come to the 3rd floor display to check some out!

It was a chilly but fun-filled spring morning at the Calvin Ecopreserve as we welcomed author Larissa Theule for a reading of her wonderful picture book, The Sweater! We loved hearing her story of woodland community, making crafts with the Ecopreserve staff, and then exploring the StoryWalk trail here. Thanks so much to Larissa and to the Festival of Faith and Writing coordinators who helped create such a lovely event with us ❤️😊📖🐦

Who said Hekman Library isn't versatile!? Even our book carts can work in a variety of situations. This past week Book Cart #4 had a cameo in Grand Rapids Christian Middle School's play, "Between The Lines." 😆

Take a chance on new romance and check out a Blind Date with a Book! In honor of Valentine's Day, our new 3rd floor display includes a selection of novels, all wrapped up to conceal their titles. Little hints about these books' different personalities/plots on the attached heart notes might help you find a match, but you can't unwrap until you check out at the main desk (it is a Blind Date after all!).
