It's Kathy's turn in the Spotlight!

Four cancers in, Kathy Kooienga took her IV pole down the row of chairs and asked what a snack cart should carry. She built it herself. Since January 2024 The Lemonaid Cart has served more than 40,000 patients, families, nurses, and doctors at The Cancer & Hematology Centers, and a second cart opened in Holland this June. “Kickin' those lemons to the curb.”

Be part of the celebration! Join us on November 18 to honor Kathy, and all of our other 16 Over 60 Honorees.

Say hello to Kathi Harris, another of our incredible 16 Over 60 honorees!

Kathi Harris founded The PROACTIVE Project in 2004 and runs it from a storefront on South Division where fifteen to twenty neighbors a day walk in for help with housing, jobs, IDs, or a chair out of the cold. Nonpartisan voter education is still its first work: 300 volunteers and 25 partners worked the last election with her. “Keep praying and keep moving.”

Say hello to Derrick Collins, another of our fantastic 16 Over 60 honorees!

Derrick Collins came home to Grand Rapids in 2009 to serve the place he grew up. At Disability Advocates of Kent County he connects hundreds of people a year to housing, rides, health care, and benefits, and he founded the Black & Brown Community Partnership Breakfast so the agency's help would reach the neighborhoods it was missing. “Do not let a number decide your life.”

Come and celebrate Derrick and the other incredible members of our 16 Over 60 honorees on November 18.

Introducing Cathy, our next 16 Over 60 honoree!

In 2013, Meijer asked Cathy Cooper whether a golf tournament could feed families. “I will figure it out and find a way.” Eleven tournaments later, the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give has sent more than $13 million to food pantries across the Midwest, and Cathy still runs it as executive director. Her father served on the Senior Neighbors board when she was a girl.

Help us honor Cathy and our other outstanding 16 Over 60 honorees on November 18.
