Today, members of Grand Rapids Fire Department and a surrounding agency began the NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I course. This academy style program is designed around a fast-paced, high caliber delivery method that challenges students to perform at a professional leadership level from day one.
Over the next several days, these firefighters will be sharpening their skills in leadership, communication, incident management, personnel development, and company officer responsibilities. The expectations are high, the workload is demanding, and the commitment shown by these students speaks volumes about the future of the fire service in our region.
Strong officers build strong departments. We appreciate the dedication from every student and instructor investing their time into becoming better leaders for the communities they serve.

Not all heroes wear capes—some wear headsets. 🎤✨

They are the first "first responders." 🎧 While they may never be seen on the scene, their voice is the first one you hear on your worst day.
Emergency Telecommunicators are the lifeline between a crisis and the help that’s on the way. They give safety instructions, calm frantic callers, and ensure our police, fire, and EMS crews stay safe.
Today, we’re saying thank you to the heroes under the headset. Your composure saves lives. 💙
