β€οΈππ Celebrating the Power of Love, Freedom & Heritage This June ππβ€οΈ
June is a month overflowing with history, courage, and culture. We honor the communities whose stories shape our nation and remind us of what resilience, unity, and love look like.
β¨ Pride Month uplifts 2-SLGBTQ+ voices. This year's Pride theme, "For All of Us," reminds us that thriving communities are built through unity, visibility, and collective care.
β¨ Juneteenth honors freedom, resilience, and the end of slavery in the United States. It is a day to both reflect on and celebrate the past, present, and future of African American communities.
β¨ Loving Day commemorates the Supreme Court decision Loving v Virginia (1967) that ended all state laws against in*******al marriage.
β¨ National Immigrant Heritage Month recognizes the strength, diversity, and contributions of immigrants who enrich our communities.
β¨ Caribbean American Heritage Month celebrates the vibrant culture, history, and achievements of Caribbean Americans nationwide. We celebrate in June because June was chosen to commemorate the arrival of the first Caribbean immigrants at Ellis Island in 1898!
Together, these observances highlight the beauty of our shared humanity. This month β and every month β we commit to learning, honoring, and serving the communities that make our world brighter.

May brings several opportunities to recognize and celebrate the diverse communities, cultures, and experiences that shape Grand Rapids.
This month, we acknowledge:
β’ Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month
β’ Mental Health Awareness Month
β’ Jewish American Heritage Month
β’ National Mobility Awareness Month
We encourage community members to take time to learn, reflect, support local organizations, and engage with the many events and resources happening throughout our city this month.
Local resources to explore include the Grand Rapids Asian-Pacific Foundation, NAMI West Michigan, the Jewish Federation of Grand Rapids, and Disability Advocates of Kent County.
Together, we continue building a more connected and equitable community for all.
