Safe Haven Ministries, located in Grand Rapids, MI, believes in a multi-faceted approach to solving the problem of domestic abuse in our community. We offer confidential emergency shelter for all survivors of domestic violence; support groups, individual supportive counseling, and advocacy through our nonresidential services. Safe Haven also offers prevention and outreach programs for the entire community.

• Bilingual Housing Advocate (English and Spanish)

Tomorrow evening, we invite you to join us for Sacred Space: A Night of Prayer at Crossroads Bible Church from 7-8:30 p.m.

Together, we'll make space for prayer, practice, and lament as we honor those impacted by domestic violence and stand alongside survivors.

The magnolia flower is more than just a pretty flower. It is a symbol of strength, dignity, perseverance, and hope - the qualities that deeply reflect the journey of survivors and the work of those who stand beside them.

The mission to create a community where people experiencing violence are met with dignity, believed in, and surrounded by support is possible when we give our time, skills, resources, and presence. Our Magnolia Heart & Hand Honor recognizes those who embody this commitment alongside Safe Haven Ministries.

During our recent fall luncheon, we had the privilege of recognizing very special Magnolia Heart & Hand honorees, Bruce & Sue Osterink and Restored Refuge Designs.

Bruce and Sue lead with a deep commitment to love Jesus and love others. Their generous lives bless our community and have blessed Safe Haven Ministries for decades.

Restored Refuge Design exists to bring a sense of home to those emerging from homelessness into stable housing. Jodie & Jill’s design skills truly create a refuge for families and welcome people into beautiful spaces to call home.

An evening of remembrance, reflection, and hope.

Last week, we joined Kent County Domestic Violence Action Network who hosted the Vigil of Remembrance downtown that brought our community together to honor those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence, reflect on those who we have lost, and reaffirm our commitment to creating safer communities.

Thank you to WOOD TV8 for highlighting this meaningful gathering, and thank you to everyone who joined us in amplifying the importance of domestic violence awareness.

When conversations about women become rooted in control, objectification, or treating people as something to be bought, sold, or used, it's worth asking a deeper question: What messages are we accepting as normal?

Human trafficking grows in environments where manipulation, coercion, and the devaluation of another person's humanity are minimized or ignored.

As public conversations continue, we have an opportunity to shift the narrative by focusing on recognizing vulnerability, supporting survivors, and creating communities where every person is treated with dignity and respect.

Awareness begins by valuing people, not viewing them as commodities.

We must give shout out to the teams from Warner Norcross + Judd and Steelcase for volunteering their time in support of Safe Haven Ministries. In partnership with the Heart of West Michigan United Way's annual Day of Caring, the work they did to clean up our space and create a welcoming environment for our residents is so appreciated.
