It has been just over a week since we gathered in Heartside to celebrate the completion of the Entertainment Alleyway mural—and we are still thinking about the energy, color, music, and community that filled the space.

What was once an overlooked passage between Studio Park and the parking structure is now a vibrant place that reflects the traditions, gatherings, creativity, and entertainment that make this neighborhood feel alive. Thank you to artists Michi and Rhiannan, mural coordinators Harmony Nguyen and Bobby Phillips, junior mural coordinators Corrin Sade Pawl-Castanon and Emma Crevier; and collaboration among Dwelling Place, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., Studio C/Loeks Foundation, Experience Grand Rapids, and community members.

If you have not seen it yet, take a walk through the alleyway next time you are downtown. 💚

A recent visit to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park gave several groups of Dwelling Place residents the chance to experience the Chihuly exhibit together.

Jonathan coordinated trips for residents from multiple Dwelling Place communities, creating an opportunity to get out, connect with neighbors, and enjoy one of West Michigan’s remarkable cultural spaces.

A stable home matters. So does having chances to explore, build relationships, and feel connected to the wider community around you. We are grateful for days like this, and the conversations and memories residents brought home with them!

Rent ranges from $1,044–$1,471 per month. Tenant pays electric. Income restrictions apply, and applicants must earn at least 1.5 times the monthly rent to qualify.

Last week, Jonathan, Dwelling Place’s Community Gardener, brought a little bit of our gardens to the StoryTrail Block Party in Muskegon Heights.

At his flower booth, community members built their own bouquets using flowers grown in Dwelling Place gardens alongside blooms from local farmers. It was a joyful way to share what grows when people make space for gardens, neighbors, and time together.

Dwelling Place is proud to have homes in the Muskegon community, and we were glad to connect with neighbors at this celebration of reading, activities, and family fun. Thank you to the Muskegon Heights Branch Library of MADL for inviting us.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Roslyn Shackelford as she begins her retirement after 15 years with Dwelling Place!

Roslyn has been the Property Manager at Reflections since Dwelling Place took over the senior housing community. Over the years, she has brought care, humor, knowledge, and a familiar face to countless residents and colleagues.

Thank you, Roslyn, for all you have given to Reflections and to Dwelling Place. We are so grateful for the difference you made and wish you the very best in retirement!

What a beautiful fall Saturday to pitch in!

Grand Rapids Community College students volunteered their time to wash windows for several Dwelling Place commercial tenants, helping local storefronts feel bright and welcoming for the people who work, visit, and live nearby.

Our commercial spaces are part of what makes a neighborhood work. They create room for businesses, services, and everyday connection and we are grateful to the GRCC students who helped care for them this weekend.
