Restoration Project Update Part 1: Last week’s Downtown Walking Tours gave us a closer look at the Grand River and the exciting changes happening along the riverfront as part of our 23rd Annual Spring Forum!

One of the highlights was stopping at Ah-Nab-Awen Park, where construction staging has begun for the Grand River restoration project. This work is setting the stage for a major milestone: construction to remove one of the low-head dams beginning July 1.

Thank you to everyone who joined us!! We’re excited to keep following this project as it moves forward! Keep a lookout for updates this Summer.

Water analysis leads to restoration ideas 05/22/2026

So proud to see LGROW’s education work highlighted by School News Network! 🌱

Wyoming Junior High eighth-graders recently worked with LGROW to study Buck Creek and Sand Creek, collect water samples, analyze watershed health, and develop restoration ideas like native plant gardens, storm drain awareness, and tree plantings. Projects like this help students connect classroom learning to the places they live and show that you don’t have to be an expert to make a difference for your local watershed.

A reminder that storm drains flow directly to our local rivers and streams — not to a treatment plant.

After mowing, take a minute to blow grass clippings back onto your lawn instead of into the street. Grass clippings can benefit your lawn by returning nutrients to the soil, but those same nutrients can harm our local waterways when they wash into storm drains.

Keeping clippings out of the street is an easy way to help protect our watershed.
