In recent news, the U.S. Department of State released a statement reminding the public that individuals who owe $2,500 or more in past-due child support may face passport restrictions.

For some, this may not be new information — but for many, this announcement came as a surprise. Previously, individuals with child support arrears of $2,500 or more could be denied the issuance or renewal of a passport. The major update to the policy is that EXISTING passports may now also be revoked or restricted due to non-payment of child support.

There are certain circumstances where a hold placed on a passport for child support arrears may be reviewed or lifted, but eligibility varies by case. If you believe you may qualify, it is important to contact the office directly to discuss your situation and possible available options.

For more information or questions regarding your case, please call (616) 632-6888.
