Dear Sherwood Families,,
During the week of September 2nd your scholar will begin taking the MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or tablet. MAP Growth scores help faculty check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Faculty use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for your scholars.
MAP Growth tests are unique and adapt to your scholar’s responses to measure their knowledge. If your scholar answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of where your scholar is on their learning journey— regardless of whether they are on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your scholar’s learning, it’s easy for faculty to identify students with similar scores in similar skills and topics and then plan instruction accordingly.
MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students in the same grade and subject with the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in kindergarten through 6th grade take the tests in September, January, and April. Following each testing period, you will receive a Family Report showing a summary of how your scholar is performing academically.
We are truly excited to focus on your scholar’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.

Sherwood Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. The faculty and staff of Sherwood is excited to welcome each of you and your scholars back to their learning community. Faculty and staff have utilized the summer to grow their craft and prepare themselves for a phenomenal school year. This email serves to give you and your scholar some information that will assist you in transitioning back to school.
We would like to welcome two new faculty members to the Sherwood community. Due to our K-1st looping structure, Ms. Packard will transition back to Kindergarten and Ms. Beth Gonzalez will be our new 1st grade teacher. Ms. Gonzalez comes to us with many years of experience in education and is well prepared to create a learning environment that will allow your scholar to engage with the learning. With the retirement of Ms. Bolduc, we welcome Casper Brown as our new 3rd grade teacher. Casper has relocated to the Grand Rapids area from the west coast to join our Sherwood community. Casper brings a deep knowledge of what it takes to create a nurturing environment that will allow all students to flourish. Please come out and explore your scholar’s classroom and meet with your scholar’s teacher during our Open House on August 15 from 4-6.
As you begin planning for this school year please keep in mind that the first day of school is August 19th . Our school day begins at 9:10 and ends at 4:08; breakfast will begin at 8:50 and lunch will be from 12:17-12:57. Drop off can begin at 8:50 at door F which is located on the large parking lot side of the building. Scholars will not be allowed into the building prior to 8:50. At the end of the day, all carpool students will be released at the front of the building to their designated adult. Please remain in your vehicles and we will utilize the drive-thru method of release; your scholar will be delivered to you at your vehicle. Please remain mindful that this is an extremely busy part of the day and patience will be needed and appreciated. For the safety of your scholar, if you need to change any dismissal information for your scholar you must make those changes prior to 3:00 PM with the school secretary, this allows needed time for the secretary to get that information to faculty and staff. These changes would include having your scholar ride the bus instead of carpool or vice versa and/or early picking up.
Again, welcome to the 24-25 school year. It will be filled with learning, growing, and exploring!
