Effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, September 4, Snohomish County’s burn ban will be reduced from Stage 2 to Stage 1 due to recent rain and improved weather conditions.

Under Stage 1, recreational and cooking fires are allowed in approved fire pits, but residential open burning remains prohibited. Recreational fires must be no larger than 3 feet wide and 2 feet high, kept at least 25 feet from structures or combustible materials, and have a water source readily available.

⚠️ If a Red Flag Warning is issued, all outdoor burning—including recreational fires—is prohibited.

Please burn responsibly and, when in doubt, don’t burn.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Gerry James, a longtime member of the Granite Falls community and an important part of the Granite Falls Fire Department family.

Gerry dedicated more than two decades to public service with the City of Granite Falls and spent many years supporting the Fire Department through the Granite Falls Firefighters’ Auxiliary, the Granite Falls Christmas House, community fundraisers, family events, and countless other activities that brought our department and community together.

In 2008, after retiring from the City, Gerry joined the Fire District as our Secretary, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge, experience, and perhaps most importantly, a connection to the people of Granite Falls. She served the District for many years and was always willing to step up and help when needed, even coming out of retirement twice.

Gerry and her husband, Jesse, were both deeply connected to the Fire Department. Jesse served 25 years as a volunteer firefighter, retiring as an Assistant Chief. Together, they represent the kind of commitment and dedication that has helped make the Granite Falls Fire Department more than an organization, it has made us a family.

Gerry was one of the longest-affiliated members of that family, and her contributions to our department and community will not be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to Jesse, their family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing Gerry.

A service to honor Gerry will be held at the Fire Station (20217 Gun Club Road) on Saturday, September 5th beginning at 3:00 p.m.

After more than a year of waiting, we're excited to share the newest addition to the Granite Falls Fire fleet!

Our brand-new ambulance has officially made it home from the manufacturer, and we think you'll agree, it has a look unlike anything you've seen before. The custom design proudly reflects the spirit of our community and honors the Granite Falls Tigers. It's a rolling tribute to the pride we all share in Granite Falls.

One of the things that makes this project even more special is that the custom graphics were made possible through the generosity of a private donation, allowing the Fire District to bring this unique design to life without using taxpayer dollars.

This new ambulance will replace our 2015 Ford F-450 ambulance, which recently reached the end of its service life after years of faithfully serving our residents and visitors.

Before it begins responding to 911 calls, we have one final step, installing the emergency radio equipment. Once that's complete, it'll be placed into our standard rotation with the rest of our ambulance fleet, ready to answer the call whenever our community needs it.

To all the students, staff, alumni, families, and fans of Granite Falls Schools, this one's for you. Thank you for making our community what it is. We hope this ambulance serves as a reminder of the pride we all share in being Granite Falls Tigers.

We can't wait for everyone to see it in person and hope it brings a little extra community pride every time it rolls through town.

We are aware of a recent Facebook post regarding a young child who was reportedly locked inside a vehicle at the IGA.

We want to clarify that the Fire Department was not dispatched for assistance regarding this incident and we understand that the situation has now been resolved.

We share this clarification simply to ensure that our community has accurate information regarding the Fire Department’s involvement. Our department takes the safety and well-being of our community very seriously, and had we been dispatched to an emergency involving a child, we would have responded accordingly.

Thank you to everyone who looks out for the safety and well-being of our community.

HIGH FIRE DANGER – Complete Outdoor Burn Ban in Effect Beginning Friday, August 7, 2026

Due to the continued fire danger risk and shared resources
assisting with wildland fire efforts in the state, the Snohomish County Fire Marshal has ordered a Stage 2 Burn Ban placing restrictions on all open burning. It will be in effect until further notice.

Effective at 12:01 a.m. on August 7, 2026, all open burning is prohibited in Snohomish County. This ban is in conjunction with burning restrictions placed by the Department of Natural Resources and the US Forest Service, which include campfires.

All outdoor burning is prohibited during this ban, including residential yard debris fires and recreational fires in fire pits until further notice.

Propane fire tables and other gas-fueled cooking appliances are allowed. Self-contained wood pellet grills and cooking devices (only if placed on a concrete or other non-combustible surface) are allowed. Charcoal grills are allowed. Charcoal and ash should be discarded in a metal container and be doused with water. The container should be kept ten feet from vegetation or combustible materials for 72 hours.

For the duration of this burn ban all outdoor burn permits are suspended.

This ban will remain in effect until there has been a sustained period of rainfall or the fire risk is reduced.

In addition to this upgrade, the Governor issued a proclamation extending the state-wide existing Stage 1 Burn Ban until September 30, 2026. This means that a stage 1 burn ban will be in effect to the end of September.
