🚨 MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT DAY 🚨

Grass Valley CHP will be out in force for a Maximum Enforcement Day, with additional officers on the roads throughout Nevada County.

Our primary focus will be impaired drivers — whether impaired by alcohol, cannabis, prescription medication, or other substances. We’ll also be watching for aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors that put everyone on the road at risk.

👀 We’ll have a heightened presence in areas that typically receive less patrol coverage, so you may see CHP officers in places you don’t normally expect.

If you’re going to drink or use an impairing substance, make a plan before you start. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare, or find another safe way home.

Don’t drive impaired. It’s not worth the risk.

Last night, the California Highway Patrol lost an amazing officer as a result of a traffic crash. CHP Grass Valley extends its deepest condolences to Officer Liles’ family, friends, loved ones, and all who served alongside him.

It is with profound sadness that the California Highway Patrol announces the line-of-duty death of Officer Brian Liles of the Visalia Area.

On September 28, 2026, at approximately 5:11 p.m., CHP Motorcycle Officer Liles was involved in an on-duty traffic crash on State Route 99, just north of State Route 190 in Tipton. He sustained critical injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officer Liles, 44, served the people of California for more than 16 years. After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2010, he was assigned to the San Jose Area and later served in the Hayward and Fresno Areas before transferring to the Visalia Area in 2019.

Officer Liles is survived by his wife, two children, his parents, and two sisters.

The CHP extends its deepest condolences to Officer Liles’ family, friends, loved ones, and all who served alongside him. His dedication to public service and commitment to protecting the people of California will not be forgotten.

It's National "See Tracks? Think Train" Week!

Do you about the blue-and-white sign at every railroad crossing? 🔵⚪

The Emergency Notification System (ENS) sign provides a phone number and crossing ID to report problems or emergencies at the crossing.

If your vehicle gets stuck on the tracks, get out immediately, move away from the tracks, and call the number on the sign to get trains stopped. If you can't find the sign, call 9-1-1.

Know the sign and know what to do. Stay safe around railroad tracks.
