Yesterday I had a roundtable meeting with police chiefs from across the 31st Senate District for a productive discussion.

These conversations allow me to share concerns I hear from community members and learn how proposed legislation could impact public safety on the ground.

Thank you to all the chiefs who took the time to join me. I would like to thank the Gurnee Police Department for hosting our meeting.

“Mothers deserve better.” Those are the words of Sahasra, a high school student who wrote to my office about her research project on affordable childcare and the motherhood penalty.

Sahasra and her father visited my office to share her ideas for supporting working mothers. I was impressed by how thoughtfully she studied how parenthood can affect women’s pay and career opportunities.

Thank you, Sahasra, for your advocacy.

Yesterday my staff joined fellow Lake County legislators for an insightful tour of in Zion, IL.

Seeing firsthand the comprehensive network of care they provide was incredibly powerful. From emergency shelter to permanent transitional options, they offer vital short-term and long-term housing solutions alongside comprehensive counseling services to support survivors on their journey to healing.

Their lifesaving programs, ranging from legal advocacy to prevention education in local schools, truly empower survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking to build independent lives. A wonderful example of this is their on-property store (pictured ) and their essential supply rooms filled with clothing, coats, and home supplies. Powered entirely by generous community donations, these spaces restore dignity and foster independence by allowing survivors to shop for gifts and everyday essentials for themselves and their families at absolutely no cost.

We are deeply grateful to the staff and leadership for their unwavering dedication, and to the community members whose donations make these resources possible. 💜
