October has been a busy around here!!

I started the month off in Knoxville for the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, where I was honored to receive the Continued Excellence Award. I learned some new programming ideas that I can’t wait to implement in Carter County!

The Carter County Homemakers hosted the Northeast Area Extension Homemakers Association’s Annual meeting. We had the largest crowd in years, with close to 150 in attendance, from nine counties.

Last week the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce held their monthly meeting at our office. We were thrilled to host the meeting, connect with other members, and hear updates from KCU.

We also participated in two of the largest annual extension programs, the 4-H Reality store with 8th graders and the Farm and Family Field Day!

Twenty-three toddlers and preschoolers came out this month for Laugh and Learn and had so much learning through play. A new volunteer led program also started for little ones! Sensory Explorers was a huge hit and is taking registration for the second series of sessions!

We’ve been partnering with Carter County 4-H to offer the Mindfulness Trail program in the 4th and 5th grade classes in Carter County this month. September is Mental Health Awareness Month so we want to give kids some tools to help with mental health. Practicing mindfulness is one way to help with stress and anxiety.

This program is a great, hands on way to learn mindfulness techniques for both youth and adults and the best part is, we can bring it to you or your group!

Contact Whitney Morrow at [email protected] if you’re interested in learning more!

Today was a good day to learn through play!

This month’s Laugh and Learn theme was Germs! 🦠 Toddlers and Preschoolers learned that germs are not for sharing.

We used our fine motor skills to do a germ straw painting with water color. We also demonstrated the importance of using soap with a science experiment. 🧼

Join us next month!
