๐ Fire Safety Friday โ Week 7 ๐
๐ฅ This Weekโs Topic: Grill & Outdoor Cooking Safety
Summer means grilling, family gatherings, and time outsideโbut grills can create serious fire hazards when theyโre used too close to homes, decks, or other combustible materials.
๐ฅ Keep these grilling safety tips in mind:
๐ Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and anything else that can burn.
๐ Never leave a grill unattended. A fire can develop quickly.
๐งน Keep the grill clean. Grease and fat buildup can ignite and cause a dangerous flare-up.
๐งฏ Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and make sure everyone knows where it is.
๐ Keep clothing, towels, paper products, and other combustibles away from the grill.
๐ซ Never use a grill inside a garage, porch, tent, or other enclosed area. Grills produce carbon monoxide in addition to creating a fire hazard.
๐ฅ If a grease fire occurs:
โ Never use water on a grease fire.
โก๏ธ Turn off the burners if you can safely do so.
โก๏ธ Close the lid to help cut off the oxygen.
โก๏ธ If the fire continues or spreads, get everyone away from the area and call 911 (tel:911).
โ ๏ธ For propane grills: If you smell gas or suspect a leak, turn off the propane supply if it is safe to do so, move away from the area, and call 911 (tel:911) if necessary.
๐ก Before your next cookout, take a quick look at your grillโs location, condition, and surroundings. A few minutes of preparation can help keep your family, home, and guests safe.
