On Thursday, October 8, 2026, Detective Travis Doze and Deputy Dodger Beckham of the Barton County Sheriff's Office served as presenters at the Kansas Intelligence Association (KIA) Conference.

During their presentation, Detective Doze and Deputy Beckham provided attendees with an overview of cryptocurrency, including fundamental concepts and investigative techniques used in cases involving digital currency. The presentation focused on providing law enforcement professionals with information and tools to assist in investigating cryptocurrency-related crimes and financial fraud.

Cryptocurrency has become an increasingly common tool used by criminals to facilitate financial fraud and scams. Criminals frequently use cryptocurrency in investment scams, fraudulent transactions, and other schemes designed to steal money from unsuspecting victims. The speed of transactions, ability to transfer funds across international borders, and challenges associated with identifying those responsible can make these investigations particularly complex. As cryptocurrency-related fraud continues to evolve, it is increasingly important for law enforcement investigators to understand how digital currencies operate and how to effectively trace and investigate transactions involving these assets.

The Barton County Sheriff's Office would also like to recognize Detective Jacob Robison of the Pawnee County Sheriff's Office, who presented information on push tokens and their relevance to criminal investigations.

The Barton County Sheriff's Office and Pawnee County Sheriff's Office regularly collaborate on investigations, share resources, and exchange knowledge to ensure investigators remain current with emerging technologies and evolving investigative techniques.

As technology continues to advance, so do the methods used by individuals committing financial fraud and other technology-related crimes. Both agencies recognize the importance of continued training, interagency cooperation, and staying informed of new investigative tools to effectively identify, investigate, and combat these crimes.

The Barton County Sheriff's Office is proud of the work being done by these investigators and appreciates the continued partnership with the Pawnee County Sheriff's Office in addressing the challenges of modern criminal investigations.

Use extra caution on wet roadways, especially at night when standing water can be difficult to see. Reduce your speed to help prevent hydroplaning, leave extra distance between vehicles, and avoid sudden braking or sharp turns. Avoid flooded roadways and most of all, get to your destination safely.
