Some updates on a few recent training nights. June training was auto extrication. This training revolves around the practice of removing injured patients from motor vehicle collisions. We must participate in this training at a minimum of every two years to maintain certification and proficiency. We even were lucky enough to have three of our newer members certify for the first time with our department. Congrats to our newest Auto Extrication certified members Seth, Nick, and Craig! Thanks for the dedication!

In July our training night covered a scenario of a person stuck in a grain auger. Training on new topics keeps our personnel ready to respond to any emergency that may happen!

Thanks to all members in attendance at these training nights! Your dedication does not go unnoticed!

Your firefighters from Great Bend Volunteer Fire Department and Dwight Fire and Rescue - North Dakota worked closely together yesterday in incredibly difficult weather conditions for fires. One of these fires came incredibly close to a residence that we were thankfully able stop before any damage to structures occurred. Our firefighters were on calls for over 12 hours yesterday from around noon until after midnight before we were able to be ready for the next emergency. Please be mindful and follow burning rules and laws for everyone’s safety.

With some much needed rain hopefully on the way, it’s a good time to share an important reminder.

Dwight Fire responded to five different calls for service yesterday, including both mutual aid and incidents within our own district. All involving grass fires. Each fire was intentionally set with good intentions. However, even with good intent, burn bans are in place for a reason.

We strongly encourage everyone to check current fire conditions before burning and verify whether a burn ban is in effect. This information can be found here:

You may also contact Richland County Dispatch at 701-642-7777 for current burn information.

If a burn ban is in effect and a fire is reported, fire resources will be dispatched to extinguish it.

Let’s hope for some much-needed rain. Please take all necessary precautions before burning and always check current fire danger ratings and restrictions
