2027 JURY PANEL QUESTIONNAIRES HAVE BEEN MAILED!

The Great Falls Municipal Court has officially mailed the 2027 Jury Panel Questionnaires, and most recipients should have received them by now.

We would like to provide some important information regarding completing and returning your questionnaire, requesting excusals, and the jury selection process.

COMPLETING AND RETURNING YOUR QUESTIONNAIRE

Please complete, sign, and return your questionnaire within seven (7) days, as instructed on the form.

We understand that returning your questionnaire within seven days may not always be possible. The Court will continue accepting completed questionnaires after that timeframe.

IMPORTANT: All questionnaires must be signed. If you are completing an excusal request on the back of the questionnaire, that portion must also be signed.

PERMANENT EXCUSALS

The Court may grant permanent excusals from jury service for the following reasons:

Chronic medical illness (a physician's note or letter is required).

Death of the prospective juror.

Individuals over the age of 75.

OTHER EXCUSALS

The Court may grant temporary excusals for the specific period an individual is out of state for snowbirding. Please include the dates you will be out of state. These excusals do not automatically extend to the entire jury service year.

Individuals who have moved outside the city limits of Great Falls may also qualify for excusal. Please provide your updated address.

EMPLOYMENT, SHORT-TERM ILLNESS, AND OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES

Employment obligations, short-term medical illnesses, and other circumstances do not automatically qualify an individual for permanent excusal from the jury panel.

These individuals will generally remain available for jury service.

However, if you are subsequently summoned for jury duty and have a current illness, employment conflict, or another circumstance preventing you from serving on that particular date, you may submit a Request for Excusal for the Court's consideration.

All requests are subject to Court review and approval.

HOW TO REQUEST AN EXCUSAL

Request for Excusal forms are available:

Online at www.greatfallsmt.gov. Navigate to Government > Municipal Court.

In person at the Municipal Court window, where you may obtain and complete the form.

Excusal requests must be notarized unless accompanied by a physician's note or military orders.

The Municipal Court provides notary services for individuals completing their requests at the Court.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION

As a Court of record, the Municipal Court may request supporting documentation for any excusal request, particularly when a request is not notarized.

If the Court requests additional documentation, you will be required to provide it for review.

Submitting an excusal request does not automatically mean the request has been granted.

‼️Scam alert!!‼️

Be aware of this text message scam that claims to involve the "Montana Department of Motor Vehicles." Do not click any links included in the scam text!🚫

As the Montana Department of Justice (DOJ) mentions in its recent post, Montana does not have a Department of Motor Vehicles; the state has a Motor Vehicle Division (MVD). MVD does not send texts asking for money for unpaid tickets or toll road fees.

The Montana DOJ also says to report any phone, email, or text scams to the Office of Consumer Protection at [email protected], or 406-444-4500 (toll-free: 800-481-6896), or online at https://dojmt.gov/office-of-consumer-protection/
