Montana School for the Deaf and the Blind This is the official page for the Montana School for the Deaf and the Blind. A first rate, caring staff leads children through those doors each year.

Since 1893, the Montana School for the Deaf & Blind (MSDB) has evolved to meet the needs of each generation of children with vision or hearing loss. At MSDB, we open doors to the world for deaf and Blind children through the use of educational technology, creative expression, or ever-increasing new tools.

🀍 October 15 is White Cane Safety Day!

Established in 1964, White Cane Safety Day recognizes the independence and rights of individuals who are blind or have low vision.

At Montana School for the Deaf and the Blind (MSDB), we celebrate that independence every day!

The white cane is a symbol of independence and confidence, but one size doesn't fit all!

Our students use a variety of white canes to meet their individual needs, take a look at the different white canes our students use at MSDB in the video.

🚨 Safety First at MSDB!

With the recent earthquake activity in Montana, MSDB held our first ShakeOut Earthquake Drill!

Students practiced "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" before evacuating to designated safety areas. The drill also highlighted our visual emergency alert system, helping ensure our Deaf and hard of hearing students receive important safety information.

At MSDB, safety and accessibility go hand in hand! πŸ’™πŸ’›

🌟 Exploring the World of Work!

MSDB students recently attended the World of Work event, where they got a hands-on look at a variety of careers! From cosmetology and healthcare to fingerprinting, crime lab investigations, law enforcement, and phlebotomy, students had the opportunity to experience different professions firsthand.

Experiences like these spark curiosity, encourage career exploration, and help students discover new possibilities for their futures!

πŸ’™πŸ’› Happy World Teachers’ Day!

We may be a little biased, but we think we have some of the best teachers around! Every day, our MSDB teachers teach, encourage, support, and make a difference in the lives of our students.

If you see one of our amazing teachers today, take a moment to thank them for all they do! 🍎

Homework help, preparing a snack, reading together, and simply spending time with one another, our evenings are filled with the everyday moments that help our students learn, grow, and connect.
A big thank you to our Student Life staff for supporting our students long after the school day ends. πŸ’™

Honoring Native American Day at MSDB. 🧑

As part of Indian Education for All Week, our Moving Mustangs Club worked together to raise MSDB’s tipi. The tipi was hand-painted by students and staff and is placed facing east to welcome each new day.

A meaningful opportunity for our students to learn, connect, and celebrate Montana’s Indigenous cultures.
