Local kindergarteners enjoyed a special visit as part of our department's Kindergarten Fire Safety Program! Throughout October, we visit over 30 public and private elementary schools to deliver important fire safety information to students in our area.

Thank you to Baird Elementary for hosting us this week! Check out these students participating in our fire safety obstacle course!

Tuesday was the first night of the school year for the Green Bay Metro Fire Cadet Program!

Students were fitted for fire gear, learned about Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and were introduced to some other fire equipment during orientation. We are excited to have 18 cadets as we move forward into the 2026-2027 season.

Great job, everyone!

Tonight, we partnered with Glass Nickel Pizza Company at 416 Dousman Street in Green Bay to promote fire safety! We randomly selected some lucky customers to receive their delivery in a fire engine. If their smoke alarms were functioning properly, they got their pizza for free. If the alarms were not working, firefighters replaced them or installed new batteries.

Thank you to all the customers who signed up to participate, the staff at Glass Nickel Pizza Company, and our crews for making this event possible!

Congratulations to everyone, especially Chief Fuiten, Assistant Chief Jeltema, and Lieutenant Vandenbush!

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is partnering with Glass Nickel Pizza Company to bring fire safety directly to local doorsteps. On Wednesday, October 14, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, select families ordering pizza may get a special surprise: their delivery arriving aboard a fire truck. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors on every level of the home.

How it Works:

➡️Sign Up: Residents can enter the drawing by registering on the Green Bay Metro Fire Department website. Link to sign up: https://www.greenbaywi.gov/FormCenter/Fire-6/Pizza-Contest-Form-259

➡️Deadline: Registration closes at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, October 14. Selected participants will be notified shortly after.

➡️What to Expect: During delivery, firefighters will conduct a quick check of the home's smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Fire Prevention Week has passed, but keeping your family safe is a year-round effort.

INCIDENT RELEASE

Fire on Green Bay’s East Side

At approximately 15:59 on October 9, 2026, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department (GBMFD) responded to the report of a structure fire at the 300 block of Windward Road. Upon arrival, smoke was coming from the structure. Fire crews made entry into the home to conduct a primary search and locate the fire. Crews encountered a hole in the kitchen floor and extensive fire damage to the cabinets. Crews found smoldering areas within the structure which were extinguished. Ventilation and overhaul were completed.

During the search, crews located 3 pets that perished in the fire. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. Property loss estimated at $195,000.

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department would like to thank the Green Bay Police Department, Wisconsin Public Service and the Brown County Communications Center for their assistance in the incident. We would also like to thank Forever Friends Pet Cremation Services for their assistance.

GBMFD would like to remind residents to keep all combustible materials away from cooking appliances and to keep stovetops clear when not in use.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.
