Today, I served a man with a small claims lawsuit lawsuit from the county for not paying his $150.00 wastewater bill. He was super friendly and as we said good bye he told me, “Thank you, you really seem like such a nice young man! I hope you have a good rest of your day! At least your job isn’t dangerous!” 🤣🤣🤣. Here’s what he didn’t know…

In the last couple of weeks I’ve done more than 30 evictions, 10 criminal summons and complaints for the County Attorney, at least a dozen Orders of Protection and several other miscellaneous type cases.

Several of the Protection Orders required the removal of adult men from their homes. In one of them, the Defendant’s 46 year old m**h addicted son tried to push past me to attack his elderly mother. This resulted in a physical altercation and required an emergency response from the Sheriff’s Office to provide backup.

In another scenario, the husband began dismantling electronics in the house to include the home’s internet access, all while stating his wife didn’t own any of it, wasn’t entitled to it and he was going to take whatever he wanted (ohhh contrare). He was both extremely belligerent and defiant, he stated numerous times he wasn’t leaving. This too ultimately resulted in asking for another unit. Especially so, because he wanted to take some fi****ms with him, which after being rendered safe by me were placed into the trunk of his car as he prepared to leave.

As I’ve said before, we never know what’s behind the next door!

I went to a home earlier today with numerous cameras watching over the front of the house and the front door. The residents weren’t home at the time I knocked so I left with the intention on returning later in the evening. Upon arrival the second time, the male homeowner saw me walking up and opened the door to greet me. He was super friendly and apologized for not having been home earlier. He even pointed out the note he left for me on the door in case we missed one another a second time. So nice to deal with pleasant people!

Today during my travels, I came across this Husky named Cochise, who was being pulled down the street by his owner like he was royalty! He was sitting so straight and looking so forward he almost appeared to be a statue. He clearly takes this ride often. He looked very comfortable and loves his wagon. I stopped off to say hello and give them a couple bottles of water. Both were super friendly and appreciated the quick visit!

I’m a supporter of the 2nd amendment and I don’t have a problem with the safe and lawful ownership or possession of fi****ms. That’s not the point of this post.
As in previous posts, it’s merely to point out the heightened sense of awareness law-enforcement officers must possess when entering other peoples homes, especially under adverse situations like evictions. Guns that are just laying around and up for grabs by someone who is dealing with serious mental health issues, substance abuse problems, anger management concerns or just plain desperation are not only a concern for our well being but for theirs as well.
As you can see in the two photos, one of the guns is rather obvious while sitting out in the open and the other one because of its color and the personal effects that it was sitting on, made it rather obscure. They don’t all just jump right out to you visually.

Recently and while on vacation, I received a phone call from Pima County Sheriff’s Deputy who had some questions regarding the service of some court paperwork that had been generated out of a District Court in the State of Oklahoma. He had placed a phone call to the Sheriff’s Department Civil Unit as well but was waiting for a call back. I advised him he was able to serve the out of state paperwork but that he should return a Certificate of Service to the Oklahoma Court letting them know it had been taken care of. Not having this type of paperwork at his immediate disposal, I told him I would see what I could do.
Again, being on vacation, the only thing I had with me was my county cell phone. I accessed my email on my phone and found a Certificate of Service previously filled out by me.

In my opinion, here’s where I think the story gets cool. I sent the used document to AI and asked it to remove all of my handwritten text. I also asked it to remove my title, address, phone numbers, name and badge. Then I told AI to replace the information it removed with info specific to the Sheriff’s Office.
In just a matter of minutes I was able to send him a totally usable document. Now, there’s certainly the possibility his supervisor comes up with som**hing else he would rather him use instead and that’s fine.

The point being though, I was super excited about being able to help him out with extremely limited resources and a little thinking outside the box!

Yesterday my hands touched 72 cases and I worked every one of them in one of them in 14.5 hours with 268 miles driven. In my 11 years as your Constable it was my busiest day ever! At one point I found myself at an intersection where I wanted to make a left turn. I was the second car in line and after the light turned green, the car in front of me just couldn’t seem to find the courage to make their turn. In some cases they had a 500 yard buffer between them and the next approaching vehicle. Their inability to drive caused me to sit through a red light an entire phase of green, another red phase and then through half of another green phase. Truthfully I was a little irritated concidering my work load.

Later that same day, I rolled up on what I thought was a traffic collision at a different intersection. After activating my lights and trying to position my vehicle in a way that would protect the disabled cars, som**hing didn’t feel right. The driver of the lead vehicle was out of his truck and standing at the window of the car behind him. In a moments observation, I thought they might just be conversing about what to do next. I quickly discerned there was no collision and it was a road rage issue, which I learned was caused by tailgating and brake checking. Their engagement with one another was escalating quickly. After ensuring there weren’t any criminal problems needing the Sheriff’s Department and settling both drivers down, they peaceably sent out upon their separate ways.
I’ve had a lifetime worth of moments to reflect on, these were just two more.
When we’re in traffic and feeling agitated, let’s try to consider what may be happening in the lives of others! A senseless loss of life over as road rage incident is truly tragic.
Let’s be mindful and safe out there!

I think the next few days are going to be long and hot. I picked up 69 cases last night in one sitting. I think this time it’s a record for me. This stack doesn’t contain another nine that the County Attorneys Office slid under my office door at 4:57 pm yesterday, which I will pick up later this morning. As the saying goes, it’s not going to get done by just looking at it, so off I go! Have a great day folks!
