Last week, 7th grade Literacy students became surgical residents at Figg General Hospital as they completed successful surgeries on Homer P Figg to determine the Theme of the story! Before they were allowed to scrub in students used roots, prefixes, and suffixes to complete a medical terminology challenge! Then they determined group roles and went to work analyzing different parts of the character through his actions, words, challenges, and values!

🔥❄️ Things are heating up AND cooling down in 7th Grade Science!

We kicked off our lesson on endothermic and exothermic reactions with a fun, engaging hook that got students thinking about how energy moves! Students explored the difference between reactions that absorb heat and those that release it. What a fun way to spark curiosity and get our scientists excited about learning! 🧪💙🖤

Our strong leader of last week is Coach Squires! Coach Squires is new to GMS this year and has worked hard to ensure a great start to the year. He asks questions, collaborates with his peers, and invites our VIP students to join in on a few basketball drills. 💪🏼💙

Our 7th-grade scientists have been “Working 9 to 5” as they explored physical and chemical changes! In a lab, they used vinegar and baking soda to blow up a balloon! When the two substances reacted, they produced carbon dioxide gas, which filled the balloon. It was a fun way to see evidence of a chemical change in action! On Dolly Day, students rotated through nine stations, classified each change, and used evidence to support their thinking. Learning science is always more fun with a little Dolly-inspired sparkle! 🧫🧪
