Thank you Sevier County! It was such a wonderful year!

Congratulations to all the new Miss Gatlinburg and Miss Smoky Mountains Titleholders! You are in great hands!

Tonight was so special! Not only did I get to see one of my Tennessee's TriStars best friends, Hadley, win her first prelim, I also had the opportunity to crown my former Miss, Shelby!

Pam and Sydney thank you for everything, Sevier County will always feel like home because of you!

Make sure to follow along on my new journey Miss East Tennessee's Teen and Be Her Hero !

Some years give you a crown. The best ones give you people, purpose, memories, and a place that will always feel like home.

Long before I wore Sevier County’s name across my heart, Dolly Parton had already made an impact on my life. Growing up with dyslexia, she helped teach me to love books before reading ever came easily to me.

This year, I had the privilege of representing her hometown, reading to students, sharing my own story, and even singing “Jolene” on the Miss Gatlinburg stage.

To everyone who believed in me, opened doors for me, cheered me on, and made this year so special, thank you.

To the next Miss Sevier County’s Teen, say yes to every opportunity. Meet the people. Serve the community. Take the pictures. Laugh a lot. And never forget that the most important thing you can do with the crown on your head is use the opportunity it gives you to make a difference for someone else.

I may be passing the crown, but Sevier County will always feel like home.

For the last time,
I am 2026 Miss Sevier County’s Teen 2026,
Eliza Girton

Today, I attended a wreath laying ceremony in honor of those who gave their lives on 9/11.

Representative Hawk talked about how the country was united after the events that day, and how divided we are now. He talked about being kind to one another and finding that unity that the world needs right now. We prayed for our country and community. And then I had a chance to talk to the Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison about where he was on 9/11.

We remembered the fire fighters, police officers and EMS who risked their lives to save people on 9/11.

Thank you to the people who lived through this day in history for teaching my generation to respect the events of that day and to keep the memories of those who died alive.

Today is Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the adoption of the 19th Amendment and the generations of women who fought for our right to have a voice and a vote.

I am incredibly proud to come from a line of strong, independent women who taught me that having a voice also means being willing to use it.

My grandma raised three daughters as a single mother while becoming a fierce advocate for public education and her community. She went on to serve the town of Gauley Bridge, West Virginia, as a council member, treasurer, and interim mayor. She showed her daughters and granddaughters that women belong wherever decisions are being made.

My mom followed in her footsteps. She has spent much of her life advocating for women and children, serving nonprofit organizations, coaching young women through the Miss America system, and helping them learn to confidently use their voices.

In 2021, she decided it was time to use her own.

My mom ran for Greeneville City Council and won by ONE vote. She became only the sixth woman elected to the Greeneville City Council. Since women gained the right to vote more than a century ago, only seven women have been elected to office in the Town of Greeneville: six councilwomen and one mayor.

My mom served one term, but watching her serve left a lasting impression on me. Today, two election cycles later, there are no women serving on Greeneville’s City Council.

That matters.

My mom has always said she never would have run for office if she had not spent years coaching women in the Miss America system. Helping other women find their voice gave her the courage to find her own.

And I think that is one of the greatest lessons the women in my family have given me.

Equality is not simply having the right to vote, run for office, lead, advocate, or speak up. It is choosing to use those opportunities when they are placed in front of us.

On Women’s Equality Day, I am thankful for the women who fought so my grandma could lead, so my mom could advocate, and so girls like me can grow up knowing there is a place for our voices too.

May we never be afraid to use them.
