Today, members of the Greenfield Fire District, Town of Corinth, Day, Greenfield EMS, and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers came together for our annual fire prevention program with students from Greenfield Elementary School!

Throughout the day, students from each grade were brought by bus to Greenfield Fire Station 1, where they participated in several hands-on lessons focused on fire safety and prevention. Our goal is to help students build the knowledge and confidence they need to stay safe at home and in their community.

This year brought a special first! We used Maple Avenue’s “Close Before You Doze” demonstration burn container to show fourth- and fifth-grade students why sleeping with their bedroom doors closed is so important. This powerful demonstration helped illustrate how a closed bedroom door can slow the spread of smoke and fire, providing valuable extra protection while people sleep.

We also had the opportunity to recognize a young community hero! A special award was presented to a student who was the first to spot a forest fire and alert her parents. Her quick observation and decision to speak up helped bring attention to the fire and may have helped prevent it from becoming a much larger incident. We are proud to recognize her awareness and actions!

Fire prevention education is an important part of keeping our community safe, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with our local students each year.

A big thank-you to the Greenfield Elementary School staff, Town of Corinth EMS, New York State Forest Rangers, Middle Grove Auxiliary, and all the Greenfield Fire District members who helped make this year’s program a success.

This morning, Greenfield Zone 29 was requested to establish a landing zone at the Wilton Fire Department for a structure fire they were operating at. Shortly after activation, that request was canceled, and Tower 29-3 was requested to respond to the scene of the working structure fire. Tower 29-3 and Car 29-0 responded.

As the incident progressed, additional requests were made, bringing more Greenfield units to the scene and placing others on standby. ETA 26-2 was requested to assist with water supply operations, while M 26-3 was requested to refill air bottles at the scene.

Middle Grove relocated to the Maple Avenue station to provide coverage within the district. Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Company and Ballston Spa Fire Department were also relocated into the Greenfield Fire District to provide additional coverage for any other calls during the incident.

Greenfield was requested to respond with our Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to assist in locating the plane. Shortly into the call, Middle Grove for manpower and Porter Corners for the off-road equipment were requested to the scene. Greenfield Center and Maple Avenue stood by for further calls. The UAS team along with the Corinth Fire Department - NY UAS team flew search missions in Edinburgh and Northville in Fulton County. Crews with the off-road equipment assisted with the recovery efforts once the plane was located.

Tuesday night, members of the Greenfield Fire District traveled to the Saratoga County Training Center for hands-on live fire training.

Crews completed four separate live-fire burns, giving each company the opportunity to operate as the first-due company and practice critical skills including hose advancement, locating the fire, fire extinguishment, and search operations.

During each burn, additional crews worked with apparatus to support search and ventilation operations, allowing members to practice coordination between engine and truck functions in a realistic training environment.

The FAST Team position was covered by the South Glens Falls Fire Department, providing an important safety component throughout the evolutions.

Training like this helps our members build experience, improve coordination, and prepare for the challenges they may face during an actual structure fire.

Thank you to the South Glens Falls Fire Company Inc. for assisting with FAST Team coverage and Wilton Emergency Squad, Inc. for providing EMS coverage.

Today, the Greenfield Fire District, along with the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers, Providence Volunteer Fire Department , Corinth Fire Department - NY (UAS team), and Town of Corinth, Day, Greenfield EMS , participated in a mock wildland search drill at Twin Leaf Farm.

This was a valuable training opportunity for our members to experience how a coordinated wildland search may be conducted during a real emergency. The Greenfield Fire District’s unmanned aerial system (UAS) and Corinth Fire Department’s UAS were utilized to assist with the search for a missing victim, while ground crews conducted a simultaneous search of the property.

The victim was located by a ground crew and transported to the staging area using our Argo.

We would like to thank all of our members and partnering agencies who participated and helped make this training a success. We also extend a special thank-you to the Middle Grove Auxiliary for providing food and to Maple Bros for generously allowing us to use their property for training.

Exercises like this strengthen coordination between agencies and help ensure we are better prepared to serve our community when an emergency occurs.
