October is Pedestrian Safety Month, and staying safe doesn't stop when you step off the bus. Whether you're walking to the bus stop, waiting for your ride, or crossing busy intersections, small habits make a huge difference in keeping our community safe.
Here are a few essential tips for navigating your commute safely:
Be Visible After Dark: As the days get shorter, wear bright or reflective clothing, and use your phone's flashlight if you're walking along unlit roads.
Put the Phone Down: Keep your eyes up and your headphones at a volume where you can still hear approaching traffic and buses. Avoid texting while crossing the street.
Use Designated Crosswalks: Always cross at marked intersections or crosswalks whenever possible, and wait for the pedestrian signal to change.
Give Buses Room to Maneuver: Never cross directly in front of a stopped bus. Wait until the bus pulls away so oncoming traffic can see you clearly.
