The City of Greensboro has reached a major milestone in its Road to 10,000 housing initiative, surpassing the halfway mark toward its goal of supporting the development of 10,000 new housing units by 2030 โ€” well ahead of schedule.

City Manager Trey Davis announced the initiative in February of last year to address Greensboroโ€™s growing need for housing by bringing together public and private partners, encouraging development across a range of price points and housing types, and identifying opportunities to make the development process more efficient.

Building more than 5,000 new housing units in 18 months illustrates significant progress in the Cityโ€™s efforts to expand housing capacity, support economic growth, and strengthen Greensboroโ€™s long-term vitality.

Increasing the housing supply is also an important component of the Cityโ€™s long-term strategy for growth and development. A diverse housing market can provide more options for residents, help employers attract employees, and contribute to the stability and continued growth of neighborhoods throughout Greensboro. โ€œThe Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Talesโ€ takes on classic storybook fables and uproariously derails them in this adaptation of Jon Scieszka and Lane Smithโ€™s childrenโ€™s book. Everything from โ€œChicken Littleโ€ to โ€œThe Gingerbread Manโ€ gets a complete makeover. Fun music and witty narration accompany the likes of ineloquent and inelegant giants, sassy barnyard animals, colossal cow pies, and enough stinky cheese to go around!

The City of Greensboro, in partnership with the T. Gilbert Pearson Audubon Society chapter of the National Audubon Society, is celebrating North Carolina Native Plants Week, October 19โ€“25.

As part of the celebration, the T. Gilbert Pearson Audubon Society (TGPAS) will host a free nature walk along the Downtown Greenway on Wednesday, October 21, from 3-4:30 pm. More information can be found at https://ayrs.io/ducjuW/.

Native plants are species that occur naturally within a region, having evolved and adapted over thousands of years to local soils, climate, and wildlife. Nearly 96 percent of land birds rely on insects, such as caterpillars, to feed their young. Native plants sustain these insect populations, providing essential food sources for breeding birds. In contrast, many non-native plants contain chemical compounds that local insects cannot digest - creating an ecological imbalance that threatens the survival of birds and other wildlife.
