One team. One source of information.

Starting today, the Greensboro Police Department, City of Greensboro, City of Greensboro Fire Department, Guilford County Sheriff's Office, Guilford County EMS, and Guilford County Government have teamed up to provide homecoming safety information on our joint information website.

This website offers parking information, GTA bus schedules, and road and street closures.

In addition to safety information, the website provides public safety alerts in real time.

Let's have a fun and safe homecoming this year!

Greensboro Fire Department Memorial Service

A moment of reflection and a lasting tribute to those who gave so much in service to others. On October 17, 2026, we gathered to honor the lives and legacies of Deputy Chief Richard Johnson and Capt. John (J.C.) Barham, two fallen retired firefighters whose service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we pause to remember them, we honor not only their service, but the legacy they leave behind. Their names will remain a part of our department’s history and their memory will forever hold a place in our hearts.

Never forgotten. Forever honored.

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Week was a SUCCESS!

From the Greensboro Science Center to Jones, Rankin, and Foust Elementary Schools, we had an amazing week spreading fire safety education throughout our community!

This year’s theme, “Safe Charging is a Superpower,” highlighted how simple steps can help prevent lithium-ion battery fires and keep our community safe. 🔋🦸🏾‍♂️

A huge THANK YOU to our community partners, educators, and students for helping make this week a success! Together, we’re building a safer Greensboro, one lesson at a time! Greensboro Science Center Jones Elementary Foust Elementary

In preparation for potential flooding associated with Hurricane Isaias, North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) has activated North Carolina Task Force 6 (NC-TF6) to deploy a Type I Swiftwater Rescue Team to Western North Carolina.

17 members of the Greensboro Fire Department and NC Task Force 6 are deploying as part of a 22-person team that will stage in Buncombe County, ready to respond to potential flooding and life safety emergencies.

The team is expected to remain activated through October 13, depending on weather conditions and operational needs.

These highly trained personnel are prepared to respond when communities need them most. Their deployment is another example of the dedication, professionalism, and commitment to service demonstrated by our firefighters.

Please join us in wishing these personnel a safe deployment as they stand ready to protect lives and assist our neighbors across North Carolina.

The Greensboro Fire Department mourns with our brothers and sisters of the Durham Fire Department following the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Andrew Brokes.

Firefighter Brokes, 24, gave his life serving the Durham community, and his service will not be forgotten. Our hearts are with his family, his friends, and every member of the Durham Fire Department as they grieve this tremendous loss. We also keep the two firefighters injured in the same incident in our thoughts and wish them a full recovery.

The fire service is a family, and today that family stands together. Greensboro Fire stands ready to support Durham in any way we can. Rest easy, Firefighter Brokes. We have the watch from here.

🛏️📚 Partnership in action!

Last year, A Bed and A Book funded and delivered 250 beds to children in need. This year, they’ve already reached 380 beds with two months still left in the year!

The Greensboro Fire Department is proud to be part of this effort alongside Piedmont Rotary District 7690 and our community partners. Through financial support and hands-on involvement, including coordinating consistent monthly deliveries, we’re helping get beds to children who need them most.

And the impact keeps growing! Rotary 7690 donated $2,000 toward the production of 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb T-shirts, produced by the Greensboro Firefighters Historical Society. The shirts generated $4,000 in profits, which were donated to A Bed & A Book to help provide even more beds for local children.

250 beds last year. 380 and counting this year.

Today, we kicked off Fire Prevention Week at My Friend the Firefighter events across the city! From meeting firefighters to learning important fire safety tips, we’re helping our youngest community members become fire safety superheroes.

And we’re just getting started! This year’s theme is “Safe Charging is a Super Power,” reminding everyone that safe charging habits can help prevent fires and keep our homes and families safe.

A huge thank you to all of our schools and community partners for helping us Charge Into Fire Safety! ⚡🔥
