In 1901, Sallie Southall Cotten wrote a book-length poem, The White Doe, about the fate of Virginia Dare, popularizing the idea that she had survived the disappearance of the Roanoke Lost Colony. Her work inspiring a rich body of regional literature and reigniting generations of public interest in the fate of the first colonists in NC. Come out Sunday for History Speaks at 3 p.m. in the Eagles School to learn more about the different historical interpretations of this enduring mystery. Charlie Ewen and Tom Shields will speak about their recent book with refreshments and a book signing to follow.
