🚒🔥 OCTOBER IS FIRE PREVENTION MONTH! 🔥🚒
A MESSAGE FROM THE GREENVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT
🔥 FIRE SAFETY STARTS WITH YOU — PREVENTION TODAY CAN SAVE A LIFE TOMORROW! 🔥
As we recognize October as Fire Prevention Month, the Greenville Fire Department would like to remind all citizens of Greenville, Mississippi, and Washington County that fire prevention is everyone’s responsibility.
A fire can happen in seconds, but taking a few simple precautions today can help prevent a tragedy tomorrow.
🚨 IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY REMINDERS:
✅ SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES! Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas. Test them monthly.
✅ HAVE AN ESCAPE PLAN! Develop and practice a home fire escape plan with your family. Know two ways out of every room when possible and establish a safe meeting place outside.
✅ NEVER LEAVE COOKING UNATTENDED! Cooking fires are a leading cause of home fires. Stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling, or cooking on the stovetop.
✅ PRACTICE ELECTRICAL SAFETY! Avoid overloading outlets, replace damaged electrical cords, and never run extension cords beneath rugs.
✅ USE SPACE HEATERS SAFELY! Keep heaters at least three feet away from furniture, curtains, bedding, and other combustible materials.
✅ TEACH CHILDREN ABOUT FIRE SAFETY! Keep matches and lighters out of children’s reach and teach them what to do if a fire occurs.
✅ GET OUT AND STAY OUT! If a fire occurs, evacuate immediately, stay outside, and call 911. Never re-enter a burning building.
❤️ OUR MESSAGE TO EVERY FAMILY:
Your life, your family, and your home are worth protecting. Don’t wait until an emergency happens to think about fire safety.
As your firefighters, we are committed to protecting lives, preserving property, educating our community, and responding when you need us most. But the best fire is the one that never starts!
Let’s work together to make Greenville and Washington County safer, one home and one family at a time.
REMEMBER: FIRE PREVENTION IS NOT JUST FOR OCTOBER — IT’S A RESPONSIBILITY WE SHARE 365 DAYS A YEAR!
