This distinction matters. The causes of cerebral palsy are related to an event or disturbance that impacts the developing brain and the areas responsible for controlling and coordinating movement. But, even if the cause is a defined event or one-time event, itâs impact on the individualâs health and wellbeing continues and may change over the course of the personâs life. Thatâs one reason lifespan research is an important focus for the CP Research Network where we understand that addressing the healthcare needs of people with CP and their families doesnât stop in childhood.
