As leaves begin to fall, please remember to keep them off the pavement of public streets and highways 🍂

Leaves in the roadway can create hazards for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Please keep leaves out of the street as you prepare your property for our Leaf Collection Program.

Placing leaves on the pavement of a public street or highway is also prohibited by law and may result in a summons or fine.

Thank you for helping keep Greenwich’s roads safe!

Construction on the Shore Road Sidewalk Project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 13, starting at Sound Beach Avenue and Shore Road and continuing southwest toward Greenwich Point 🚧

During construction, residents can expect:
🚦 Alternating one-way traffic at times, with police officers on-site to assist with traffic control.
🕗 Weekday construction hours: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM.

The roadway will be restored to a drivable condition at the end of each workday. Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year, weather and other conditions permitting.

Fun Fact Friday: Nearly 77% of pedestrian fatalities occur in the dark🚶‍♀️🌙

As the days get shorter, it’s especially important to stay alert when walking or driving after dark.

Drivers: Slow down, stay alert, and watch for pedestrians—especially in low-light conditions.

Pedestrians: Be visible, use crosswalks, and stay aware of your surroundings.

A little extra visibility and attention can go a long way toward keeping everyone safe 💚

Fun Fact Friday: October is Pedestrian Safety Month🚶‍♀️🚦

Nearly half of all fatal pedestrian crashes involve alcohol use by the driver and/or the pedestrian 🚗🍺🚶

This month, we’re joining communities nationwide to promote safer choices for everyone sharing our streets. Whether you’re driving, walking, rolling, or biking, staying alert and making responsible choices can help keep everyone moving safely.

Let’s look out for one another and help make Greenwich’s streets safer for all.

Yesterday, Deputy Commissioner Gabriella Circosta-Cohee presented alongside at WEFTEC in New Orleans, sharing Greenwich’s experience with identifying and addressing illicit connections as part of the Town’s ongoing Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) program 🌎

The presentation, “The Art of Finding Illicit Connections in Greenwich, CT,” highlighted innovative techniques, challenges and lessons learned from the Town’s work to protect our waterways and maintain our stormwater system.

We’re proud to see Greenwich’s work shared with professionals from across the industry and to bring those experiences and ideas back home to Greenwich💧

Storm drains and catch basins help collect rainwater from our streets and direct it into the drainage system. When leaves, sticks and other debris collect around a catch basin, they can restrict the flow of water and contribute to localized flooding 🌧️

If you see debris building up around a storm drain near your home, safely clear the area so water can continue to flow.

The Town’s Department of Public Works routinely maintains and cleans the storm drainage system 💧

If you notice a drainage concern that needs attention, submit it through the Town’s Report a Problem tool: https://www.greenwichct.gov/2730/Public-Works-DPW

2️⃣ Schedule a home pickup

Your castoffs help keep textiles out of the trash and support local recycling education ♻
