The Greenwich Police Department is alerting residents to reports of potentially fraudulent property purchase notifications involving LifeLock, a third-party identity theft protection service.

The Town of Greenwich has received several inquiries from residents who reported receiving LifeLock alerts indicating that property purchases had allegedly been made in their names. These notifications have raised concerns regarding possible identity theft and unauthorized real estate transactions.

The Town of Greenwich does not use LifeLock to monitor property transactions or issue land records fraud alerts. LifeLock is not affiliated with the Town of Greenwich or its official land records notification system. The Town maintains its own land records fraud alert service.

Residents are encouraged to exercise caution and independently verify any unexpected notifications involving their personal or financial information.

The Greenwich Police Department recommends the following precautions:
• Verify suspicious notifications: Confirm any reported property transactions through the Greenwich Town Clerk's Office.
• Avoid suspicious links: Do not click unfamiliar links or provide personal or financial information in response to unexpected notifications.
• Contact trusted sources directly: If you receive a LifeLock notification, verify its legitimacy through the company's official website or customer service channels.
• Monitor personal information: Regularly review financial accounts, credit reports, and property records for unauthorized activity.
Residents who receive an unexpected notification regarding a property purchase or transfer are encouraged to contact the Greenwich Town Clerk's Office to verify the accuracy of their land records.

The Greenwich Police Department reminds residents to remain vigilant and rely on official, verified sources when responding to notifications involving property ownership or personal information. Taking proactive steps to confirm the legitimacy of these alerts can help protect against identity theft and financial fraud.

The Greenwich Police Department would like to inform residents that its Emergency Services Unit (ESU) will be conducting a scheduled training exercise at Captain's Island on Friday, October 16, 2026, from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

During the training exercise, residents and boaters in the surrounding area may hear loud noises or observe smoke originating from the island. These activities are part of a planned law enforcement training exercise and do not pose a threat to public safety.

The training has been coordinated with the Town of Greenwich, including the Department of Marine Operations, to ensure the exercise is conducted safely and with minimal disruption to the surrounding community.

The Greenwich Police Department appreciates the public’s understanding as members of the Emergency Services Unit participate in this important training to maintain operational readiness and enhance their ability to respond to critical incidents.

Congratulations to Officers Livingston and DeLuca, recognized as our Officers of the Month for their exceptional police work and dedication to combating organized retail and financial crime.

While assigned to the Organized Retail Crime Abatement (ORCA) Unit, the officers were credited with 17 custodial arrests in July alone, involving payment card fraud, larceny, identity theft, impersonation, and other financial crimes, along with three additional arrest warrants.

Many of these cases began through proactive observations and developed into larger investigations involving organized theft groups operating across multiple states. Their work resulted in numerous arrests and significant asset forfeiture seizures, including approximately $18,000 in cash and $240,000 worth of jewelry in one investigation. Subsequent search warrants uncovered information related to more than 300 stolen payment cards and over $80,000 in alleged fraudulent transactions.

Intelligence developed through their investigations has been shared with more than a dozen jurisdictions and federal law enforcement partners, assisting investigations beyond Greenwich. Their expertise also led to an invitation from prosecutors at Stamford Superior Court to present their recent cases during an in-service training.

Year to date, Officers Livingston and DeLuca have made a combined 117 arrests.

Their initiative, investigative skill, and commitment to our local business and law enforcement communities exemplify the professionalism and dedication we are proud to recognize.

Please join us in congratulating Officers Livingston and DeLuca on this well-deserved recognition.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, support survivors, and recognize the impact domestic violence has within our community.

On October 4th, members of the Greenwich Police Department participated in the YWCA Greenwich Harmony Project’s Walk the Walk at Bruce Park, joining community members and advocates to help kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Chief Heavey also had the honor of leading this year’s walk, standing alongside survivors, advocates, and members of our community in support of this important cause.

Domestic violence remains one of the most frequently investigated violent crimes in Greenwich, with approximately 200 reported incidents each year, while many incidents continue to go unreported.

Throughout October, our officers will wear purple ribbons, and GPD patrol vehicles will display purple ribbon magnets as a visible show of support for survivors and those impacted by domestic violence.

We are proud to stand alongside the YWCA Greenwich Harmony Project and our community partners in raising awareness and supporting survivors.
